As I was approaching a roundabout I pulled into lane 2 and there was a car beside me in lane 1. A Honda Jazz was already on the roundabout and went past, I pulled out behind the Honda but he stopped as he thought the car in lane 1 was going to pull into him, cue me slamming brakes, too late and a low speed collision of about 10mph.

Now I think its probably my fault and have no problem admitting that, but was the other driver also at fault for stopping on a roundabout? What would be the likely hood of going 50/50?

And before anyone says I DID have winter tyres on but it was above 7 degrees! Maybe they were to blame!!! rolleyes

Unfortunately, you drove into him. It's 100% your fault, and that's how the other chaps insurance will see it.

Thought as much but everyone at work has been saying "how is it your fault?!"

I figure that if I admit it I can get my car repaired quicker.

I imagine it would be quite clear cut, roundabout bumps like this are quite common as the driver is typically looking to his right when he pulls off. (Not looking if it's clear ahead to pull away) I've done it myself, I apologized to the other chap on the spot, but fortunately the speeds involved were so minor he decided to bother pursing it.

It was your fault but not really for you to admit or not. Your insurance company will make their own conclusion. Won't hold anything up.

You could lie and say he was reversing the wrong way around the round-a-bout - worked for me before.

Should have left a gap. Other drivers should have no effect on your vehicle, in that there's always room for you to make the manoeuvre you're trying to do without even scraping anything, and if you get rid of that buffer area you have to start trusting others to not do anything too stupid.

You're definitely at fault, but you lived, and you've probably learned. Generally I wait until I'm at the front row of traffic before trusting that I can go when I want and not have to worry about some plonker jamming the anchors on smile

Good old trusty Honda Jazz, always driven by people older than time itself.

Unfortunately it does sound like it will be your fault pal. I do see what you are getting at though. What has your insurance company said?

This is exactly what happened and I feel a fool for letting it happen.

It can't possibly be the fault of the guy on the roundabout. He's quite at liberty to stop to avoid the possibility of the bloke on your left driving in to him.

So yep, all yours.

Nope - Anyone you crash into do the same thing - get out of the car ranting about them revising into you. It's a confidence trick that I've used a lot of times to cover up after crashes that are blatantly my fault.

Best one was once when a mate was following me - I hit someone up the arse - only gently but enough of a jolt to upset them. The guy got out and starting going mental that I'd hit him. I denied it and told him that he'd rolled back into me, bad feedback so I suggested he speak to the guy behind (my mate) who obviously backed up my story - the guy knew he'd been shafted but couldn't do anything about it - his face was a picture.

Sounds like a typical crash for cash set up.

Insurance fraud much?

OP- you can't crash into the back of a stationary car and expect insurance to go in your favour. If it makes you feel any better, this is a very common accident and an easy mistake to make.

No - I never ask for money. nono You can't crash into someone, blame them and then ask for money. Well I guess you could but I'm rubbish at keeping a straight face so it wouldn't work for me.

Pretty sure it wasnt a cash for crash set up, they were a nice couple in their 50s/60s and they weren't to know I was about to pull out behind them so immediately.
