What to do when your number plate is cloned?
Discussion
Title says it all really. A family member has got a private plate on an ML320 (Had the plate since issue by DVLA), just had a phone call from a family friend saying that the plate has been seen on a BMW in Chesterfield this morning.
I assume we just write a letter to DVLA mentioning the above?
Any other suggestions from our resident BiB?
thanks

In addition to above advice then also speak to BiB about your concern Daz - if you are absolutely sure there is no chance of a mistake. Could then go on their database and a marker for ANPR/Silent checks?.
If it is a mistake then the only one that will get the flack in numerous pulls until the clone found will be your goodself, which in fact will happen in any case.

Thanks for the advice DVD. It could be one of a number of varitions with studs or clipped letters/numbers that are made to look like our plate. On the basis I didn't see it with my own eyes and therefore can't be absolutely sure, it's probably not worth doing anything about then.
If it is a clone plate, a ANPR check point should pick up the plate is registerred to a Mercedes 4WD as opposed to a BMW at some stage in the near future.

Don't rule out a DVLA cock-up, Daz. My dad's ex-business partner bought a plate direct from DVLA some years ago and subsequently they tried to grab it back when they found that they'd issued it twice!
{edited to add:} If its the plate I'm thinking of, the AA check shows it as a Merc ML320, so that's ok.
