Points on licence
Discussion
Morning Guys, a few questions if I may.
I got an SP30 back in either 2007/08 I need to get home and check exactly which year.
Firstly am I right in understanding they stay on your licence for xx amount of years and on your insurance longer, each insurance Co being different of course.
When they expire from your licence do I need to send my paper counterpart back to have them removed or do I simply do nothing?
Reason being is I got a driving experience for Christmas that requires a clean licence.
Many Thanks.

- Just realised this should probably be in SP&L. Would a mod kindly move it please.
i believe its
3 years for totting up
4 years on license
5 years for insurance
more serious offences are much longer
here's a list

that prize game, where if you can score a total of 12 points you win a ban
Im not very good at this - Not sure if this is a good or a bad thing.
As above its a Porsche driving day in Newcastle and have a telephone or email address to call to book but the slip we have has no website.
The GF won it in a raffle before Christmas and never said anything and gave it to me as a surprise so only cost her the price of a raffle ticket.
Don’t have any of the details to hand but will Google the number when I get in tonight to find out more of the details and keep you guys posted.
At the bottom of the form I have it states you must be over 25 with a clean licence.

Ok just text home and the telephone and email are for the Porsche garage at the Silverlink.Just had a look at their website http://www.porsche.com/all/uk/?newcastle and cant see anything regarding driving days.
They have donated it as a raffle prize, it's not a retail thing.

From a few years back, someone else won it.

That sounds about right. https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:KUj...

Does this sound like your average driving experience or something similar? Never done one before and the voucher is at home so can't check.
Is it likely to be something along the lines of going out on the track with an instructor and then a few laps yourself?
If so anybody know what track they are likely to use?

Once round the silverlink perhaps
Aslong as they shut every road in the surounding area I will be happy. Back to my OP what happens to points on your licence once they have expired?
I have both a photo card and paper counterpart and have the fine written on the paper counterpart in pen.
The DVLA states you need to apply for a new licence and gives instruction for both paper licence and photo card seperately.
It states include fee but has no mention of how much this is.
I have ordered a new form to replace my licence either way but what if I was to leave the fine written on the paper counterpart? Will this cause me any problems in the future?
They must mean legally clean rather than physically clean.
As points don't count after three years for totting purposes your licence is technically "clean" after this length of time. Hence points say five years old should be irrelevant regardless of whether they are still on your licence.

Assuming that the points have now expired (i.e. they are over 4 years old), there's no need to pay (or there wasn't, last time I checked this loophole - if they charge you to change address on your licence nowadays, then don't bother reading past the next paragraph). The DVLA states you need to apply for a new licence and gives instruction for both paper licence and photo card seperately.

...
PHOTOCOPY THE PHOTO LICENCE AND PAPER COUNTERPART FIRST, BEFORE SENDING THEM TO DVLA to make sure you have evidence if they make a mistake (losing vehicle class entitlements isn't unknown
, for example). The address on your licence needs to be one at which you can be contacted, so you can change your address on your licence to (say) your parents' address (as long as you can still be contacted via the new address!).
Then when the new licence arrives at the new address... photocopy the new one then change the address back to your home address again.
TaDAAA *tish* In a couple of weeks, one "clean" driving licence - for free
.Alternatively, do nothing (also for free, and less hassle
) - if the points on your paper counterpart are pointed out by (for example) a car hire company, just point out that they have expired
