I get constantly p****d off with people (the vast majority it appears ) who give no signals when changing their position on the road. Your waiting at a junction or island and they turn off by you and you have no idea. I dont think its illegal to not give signals but in the event of an accident if not giving a signal is a contributory factor then you will be prosecuted. Begs the question why put indicators on cars at all. Why do some people only give right signals and not left??? Why do so many drivers think an island needs to be driven straight over and not "round" resulting in me almost losing my front wing on several occasions, beats me reckon pure and simple laziness.

In my experience, most people seem to indicate merely to remind themselves what they are doing, and in many cases to remind themselves of what they have just done. Few people indicate to inform other road-users of their intentions.

I get annoyed too with people who brake first, then indicate. If they indicated first I would expect them to brake, but not the other way round. They brake but I see no reason for it; as a result I start looking for the hidden scamera [] and my concentration is disturbed.

The brake lights and indicators are there to communicate with other road-users. Use them properly and everyone benefits. Use them poorly (including not at all) and the KSIs can increase.

This is one of my biggest pet hates as well.

Signalling requires minisucle effort, doesnt cost anything and is just plain rude not too, yet people dont do it!

Its one of the smaller signs of eroding grace and common sense in our society today.

If you mean when changing lanes on a motorway/dual carriageway, I was taught during my voluntary motorway lessons that as the default rule is keep left unless overtaking, there's no need to indicate back in after such a manoever. However, I will indicate left if I think it will give clarity to a vague situation.

Assuming you mean mini-roundabouts rather than "proper" traffic islands (), again, whilst learning to drive, my instructor taught me that if its painted on, its "meant" to be driven over. i.e. its there purely to indicate right of way rather than create a chicane.

I think that if its slightly raised, then you have to make some effort to go around it, but its that low to enable you to cut the corner in a vehicle that wouldn't otherwaise be able to make the turn...

Aaargh! Pet hate of mine - people indicating right to take the 3rd exit of a roundabout and continuing to indicate right as they exit. Even more annoying are those that then indicate left once they've completed the manoever!

Pdv6 I was taught when changing position on a road to signal. I meant a proper island not the mini roundabout types which should be chicane like.

This annoys me SO much.

Not only is rude and discourteous to other roadusers, but also life endangering. The number of times Ive driven behind a car on the motorway and you know its going to pull out and overtake a slower moving vehicle, and............ no indication!!!

When I took my driving test being Psychic was not a pre-requisite for passing.

Saw an accident whereby the driver in front of me failed to cancel her indication only to have some poor bugger at the next junction pull out in front of her. This resulted in her T-boning the car that pulled out. This taught me two very valuble lessons:

1) always make sure you indicators are cancelled
2) always ensure someone turning left into "your" junction is not a brain dead numpty and is actually going to turn.

As for failure to indicate; that offence should be immediate execution with no chance of appeal!
