Car was garaged and insured - No Tax though....wtf..
Discussion
So i decided to bring my convertible out of storage. Go online to buy tax, pay and then am told because there was a gap in taxing the vehicle i may be investigated to determine why. Car has been in my internal garage and had full insurance in that time also..

Blimey, do you not get TAX reminders in the post?? DOn;t see how that can have escaped you.
Though I do find it gauling that I have to tell the government every year that Im not using a car I own that's kept on my private property!
If youre not driving it except on your private property, and planning on never driving it on the road again then declare off the road permanently?Though I do find it gauling that I have to tell the government every year that Im not using a car I own that's kept on my private property!

What now? Farkin load of b
ks is what it is...
I don't understand what paying £900 to insure has got to do with taxing or having the car SORN'd. What now? Farkin load of b

The off the road notice has been in force for some years now and it stops people trying to evade road tax. Instead of the usual 'it never gets driven your honour' excuse it's replaced with a SORN thus meaning if anyone has a car that isn't sorned they must be using it on the road without taxing it.

Because they're not that good! How would they know that Virgil isn't going to be one of these divs that try to get away without paying his road tax. virgil said:

Also, income generation for the country *cough* .

Errm. Dunno.
Imagine having the use of a car that's not linked to you and doesn't have your name on the V5C

The SORN/taxation/continuous insurance requirements are broken (if not arguably totally and irreconcileably

(This is all tongue in cheek BTW

So I'll content myself with pointing out that Gaul encompassed not just most of modern France, but Luxembourg, Belgium, much of Switzerland, Northwest Italy, and parts of The Netherlands and Germany.

... Or the owner has just forgotten to SORN it ... or genuinely didn't know that they had to.There used to be a principle called 'innocent until proven guilty' but that is being slowly and methodically done away with, the whole SORN rubbish being a prime example of the chipping away of liberties and forcing the public to comply with governmental control.
Still, having conditioned the public into accepting that they must submit paperwork on cars that aren't being used on the road (and are therefore absolutely no concern of the authorities) and paying fines if they don't jump through the bureaucratic hoops, the next step will be to introduce a charge for SORNing 'to cover costs'.
More money for nothing and less civil liberties - music to any politician/bureaucrat's ears.
