I've just had an accident writing off my S2000 and a BMW 335d. My first accident so I dont have a clue whats happening.

My insurance has accepted liability and are paying out for the damages.

I'm 3rd party fire and theft, so I've lost my car. I only took the insurance out 5 days ago, do I lose the full premium aswell? I paid upfront £1400.

I've now go to recover the car from wherever the Police have taken it before I start getting charged thousands.

Any advice?

Unlucky.

Sorry, you can't be serious when asking if you lose the cost of the premium?

Were you completely honest when you took out the policy?

Was the 335 mapped?

Didn't realise you could take out an S2K on third party...the difference in cost between third party and fully comp usually isn't much these days.

Hi David,

Very sorry to hear about your crash, I hope you and the other party were both unharmed.

My understanding is that your premium is now forfeit. I don't think I can help regarding your other questions - but good luck.

Hope all the occupants are ok- vehicles and money can be replaced over time.

Best of luck getting everything sorted.

Sorry to hear it.

Yes you do lose the premium. You'll probably also get your wallet lightened to the tune of 120-150 quid for storage of the car too if it's in police storage.

How bad's the damage? Might be worth breaking it for spares to try and offset a little bit of the cost.

You can do TPFT on any car. In 2001 I stuffed an S2000 as well. Painful on the pocket.... Good luck.

Just a wet miserable day on a straight road.

The car was only £4k, but I was wondering if I was paying for it monthly would it have made a difference ie. I could just stop paying the policy or would they want me to continue paying?

Nobody was injured but if I had been in my old MX5 turbo I most likely wouldnt be posting on the internet right now.

Don't think so. With TPFT, he still owns the car not the insurance company. There aren't going to pay him anything for his car so its still his.

i suppose but if you really want it surly youd want to keep it if the worst happened so surly 3k or what ever is better than 1400 and no car + additional costs. i had third party once on a car but it wasnt worth alot so i took the risk

so it was vtec yo then wink

actually im not sure what would happen with instalments id imagine they would go after you with debt collectors and through the courts and you wouldnt get insurance again for trying to stiff them

They would politely ask you for the remainder of the premium in one go. Failing to comply would have the issue passed to a debt collection agency, which would get very expensive.
