Just been run off the road.....

Morning All,

I've had an interesting drive into work this morning, and a little run in with a white van in Dudley which I'd like some advice about.

I was in the right hand lane of traffice coming off the Burnt Tree Island in Dudley, wanting to turn left onto the Dudley bypass to go up towards Brierley Hill. I see a gap to move over, so I indicate, give the chap in the van plenty of warning that I'd like to move over, the gap stays so I move. I look over to see the guy in the white van going nuts and trying to close the gap after I have started moving. He then stops and decides he wants to move into the right hand lane I have just left, pulls alongside me and promptly drives into the side of my car, making a right mess of my front wing and drivers door.

He then pulled over and started going nuts again, after seeing his expression and having witnessed his maneouvre beforehand I was slightly concerned for my own safety at this point so carried on, however I got his registration plate (on the MID sadly ) and am now wondering where to go next? I realise I should have probably stopped but I didn;t fancy coming into work with a black eye and a broken nose.

Any advice is much appreciated......

Whilst I appreciate your reasons for not stopping, from an insurance point of view you are likely buggered as you MUST stop when there is damage to persons or property. You're also left with no witnesses.

Report it ASAP ... Happened to me years ago .. Police controller advised me not to stop and confront driver .. sadly the police were never able to trace the vehicle that hit me as it was on false plates and the Taco of the vehicle that was produced as evidence by the defendant showed the vehicle was 200 miles away from me at the time of the incident

Report it ASAP, as no doubt he's doing the same and will say you drove away from an accident imo,

Make sure you mention you went to pull over however you feared for you're own safety as just before you stopped he was already out the van being aggressive.

I'd agree with this.

Also check which roundabout you were on, Burnt Tree has gone.

I'd have stopped and dialled 101 straight away, id then only get out of the vehicle once the BIB showed up..... Unless other driver does something even more stupid, in which case i'd run the f**ker over in self defence.

But that's just me.

Police ASAP, absolute no brainer.

It needs to be reported as soon as reasonably practicable (and not later than 24 hours), anyway..

I seriously doubt the BiB would want you to have stopped to be mauled! Good luck sorting it all out.

Also, why would bib turn up at all?


ps - if you think its for violence then 101 woud be wrong anyway, you need 999. http://www.police.uk/101

Have reported it to 101, will go down to the Police Station at lunch and fill in the Accident Form. The officer on the phone completely understood my reasons for not stopping, just need to get the forms sorted out now.

Any tips on how to stop shaking would be appreciated as well

A cup of tea and a cuddle from the prettiest girl in the office will probably help.

Sorry to hear what happened...it must be a horrible experience.

I'm not trying to be a dick or get on my high horse but why would you not call the police asap. If someone purposely ran into me I would be onto 999 - I know PH is a wealth of information but didnt it cross your mind to call them first before posting on PH.

My first thought was to call the Police, looking back now I would have blocked him and waited for the Police to arrive, however after having had my car assaulted I wasn't thinking particularly clearly.

Thanks for all your help folks, I'll let you know how I get on at the Police Station at lunch. Looking into it front wings for an E36 are only 25 quid, which has cheered me up a bit.

Being removed from the situation makes it easy to comment . It's amazing what goes through your head when stress and adrenaline levels are up.

I was on my way to work this morning when some twunt came flying up the outside lane and cut me up at the last minute to turn left at the Burnt Tree Roundabout. I managed to avoid rear ending him by changing lane myself into the space he had just vacated. Unfortunately he then decided he didn't want to turn left so moved back into the right hand lane only to find my van there. He hit the side of the van but didn't stop and just drove off.

Wouldn't surprise me, however given my route and the damage on the car it would be a tough one to argue imo. but then I would say that
