The BiB cheered up my weekend by delivering a NIp for 84 in a 60 on the Hog's Back in Surrey. I remember the van quite clearly and thought I'd seen it before it had seen me. Wrong, obviously! Must have long, long lenses on these things.

Anyone had similar situation from the Surrey police? What's the likely damage to my license going to be?

Yeah, saw that - Thanks. 1 Mph under....

Was wondering if anyone had experience of Surrey in particular as I know each authority has a different view on these things.

It's the same law book that they throw at you whether you be in Surrey or wherever.

edit to add...

For more serious cases, certainly where the speed is more than 20 mph in excess of the limit, a Summons is recommended

Out of interest, did they share the distance you were caught at?

Nope, they didn't. It was a long way off though (>1km?), as I remember thinking - <smug>heh, good job I saw that...</notsosmugnow>

Yes, the rule book is the same but there is a wide variation in interpretation and sentencing, regardless of central guidelines.

In general, by the time you see them, it's too late.

Slow down on the Hog's Back, then you can look out for the doggers. wink

You should ask for a photograph to assist with identifying the driver, maximum distance for speed checking is 999 metres I believe.

I got 5 points 5 years ago and a £800 fine for 89 in a 60 they did try and ban me, but I helped out with a charity part time driving a mini bus, so they sent a letter into the court that said that they cant replace me and me being banned would effect helpless people...

In the end I was quite happy with the outcome as 89 was a very fair cop....

They seem to love it on there - stupidly-low speed limit = rich pickings.

AFAIK the stupidly low limit was put in due to the many cut throughs that the road use to have. All but three of these have been closed off. There is a nice shiny new surface on their now as well so was wondering if the limit should be raised???

( all be it there are still loads of collisions along their and stupidly high amounts of other incidents compared to other dual carriageways - loose sheep/horses, broken down cars/buses/lorries, heavy fog, very bad, flooding, ice etc etc)

Was told that there were a few local councillors or mp's that live along there and would oppose the increase.

Have they resurfaced the last mile or so towards Farnham before it goes to NSL? If so, while I'm happy it's safer, I am slightly disappointed as I used to use that little stretch of road to test the comparative ride comfort every time I changed my car.....they've completely buggered my metric!

Part of reporting anyone for speeding is two forms of evidence. One is the operators opinion, the second is from the laser.

At 999 metres there is no way you can judge the speed. The maximum in my experience is about 400 metres depending on the road etc...

Where on the hogs back was it?

Heading towards guildford? If so its a spot they commonly use and you can see the van from a long distance away....unless you're only looking just over your bonnet like some!
