In your opinion, are speed cameras just a money making scheme set up by the government with drivers safety being used just as an excuse to reap profits?

95% "it's money making sceme"
4% "won't somebody please think of the children"

and then the government come out with such lies as "85% of the public support speed cameras"

This probably is not a lie... If you only question scamera supports / Governemnet yes-numpties I am sure you will get this figure. The reason why the figure is not 100% is because the other 15% had their heads so far up their arses they didn't hear the question

Actually didn't the Govt come out with this figure because of the DfT survey which was decsribed by Prof Mervyn Stone as having a "disgraceful positive bias" in favour of speed cameras.
