The number of people killed on the roads last year was about 3500 (not sure of the exact figure).

What I would like to see is breakdown of information about these statistics, i.e.

The number killed in hit and run
The number killed by uninsured drivers
The number killed by cars driven with no TAX
The number killed by cars driven with no MOT
The number killed by cars driven by drunk drivers
The number killed by cars driven by drugged up drivers
The number killed by cars driven by banned drivers

I am sure there will be a large amount of overlap, but the figures would certainly be interesting.

If we had this information it would prove one way or another whether or not the currnet way that roads are policed is working.

Check the DfT website. Don't know whether or not they go into the detail you're looking for, but there's a lot of info there.

Nothing really of value on the DFT website, but then again I didn't expect there to be - just figures that can be manipulated for any argument.

Since statistics are being gathered on accidents I would have thought that someone has this data. I guess it is "top secret" though and not for the public....

I am surprised that none of the BIB have commented on this.

Go back to sleep Britain - Blair has it all under control!

You have more chance of finding out who assassinated Kennedy than finding the truth about accident figures. Don't you know, government income depends on these myths.

Yes, I've looked also to no avail.

You can be sure that if the figures were in the government's favour, they would be easily accessible. (I'm not talking about the fiddled statistics that have been bandied by revenue camera organisations, which have been pulled apart with some ease.)

Only the first on that list could be done by a local authority, as technically hit & run is registered on the STATS19 form. The rest could only be worked out by the BiB.

Basically at this moment in time - they havn't got the man power - even civilian officers to do this. I favour taking the Camera Partnership staff and going through every accident record since 1994 to give me the ammo you want to know there.
