Is my work van seat legal ?

I work for a very large company ( we all drive red vans and have a black and white cat ), and although they are kept fairly well maintained , they wont do anything about this seat apart from tell me to get a cushion ! Its seat has fell through right to the metal frame and is putting you into a position where there is no support for your back. I'm not looking for "compo" for any injury or looking to make a fake back one up but my back is hurting. I just want to tell the boss look it does need sorting ... is it legally safe?




Also I have the fun of driving a bippa, and recently changed the wheel , they had not put a standard bippa tyre on but a much wider sport tyre, I'm assuming it was fine to drive but surely a bit stupid putting different sized tyres on ??

If that vehicle was over 3.5 tons (Ie a truck) and you had to go to VOSA for an MOT, that would be an instant fail.

Cushion for the seat will be fine!

The tyre is another issue and should be a matching size. I suspect it would fail an MOT at the very least, I doubt they could fire you for refusing to drive it.

i got a red van as well. no pussy on mine though.
when i was issued a iveco with the same problem i pmt`d the van and got it fixed.
why not try to do the same?

Tyres must be the same size on the front axle. The tyres on the rear axle must be the same size. It's perfectly legal to have different sizes on the front to the back though.

Indeed but the OP mentioned they change a wheel, not a set of wheels.

I've put a pmt form in on the 17/01 but they have just let me carry on driving it. It's no big thing really I suppose it's more about getting one over on the boss ... plus dont wont old bill fining me for anything as it would be legally my fault.

The tyres are illegal. Do not drive it again. You're risking your licence by driving it.

Is that a vauxhall combi? I also work for same company and the seats are rubbish, we've had a few replaced.

I'm guessing you're a CWU member? It won't be a popular suggestion on here, but you could check with your union rep. Unions tend to be useful for sorting these kind of issues out and knowing relevant law.

Giving you a seat which induces back pain is daft - it's the main cause of time off work sick, IIRC.

Yes its a combi , I usually have a Bippa but the abs light was on and they couldnt take it off the road quick enough, but if a lights not on it isn't important according to them !

It makes me laugh people say go on about posties not knocking, it takes longer to fill the red form in then sort out the parcel at the office than to just give it to you.
However i've knocked on peoples doors and there hoovering or got the stereo on and they don't hear, so just how long do you think i/we should stand on your doorstep?
