There is a big and busy pedestrain crossing at Bishopsgate just opposite tescos, not far from Dirty Dicks and next door to a police station.

Get off the bus this morning, pass a copper who just parked his car and behind him a HGV unloading, witht he front wheels half way onto the pedestrian crossing.

Now I am all for common sense and accomodating businesses. But this seemed rather on a pisstaking side no?

Friend of mine just got 3 points and a £60 fine for dropping someone off one foot over the zig zags. The thing is the coppers who done him park in another town all the time on the zig zags to get to their favourite bakery.

It depends if the parkin was dropped on the crossing on purpose or accidentally, but I don't think the copper would have wasted his time giving a ticket for littering.

Unusual to see it outside of Yorkshire TBH, I've not seen anywhere in London you can get it from.

Are you sure it wasn't just a flapjack?

That's my point exactly. this wasn't a zig zag this was half way ontot he actual path where pedestrians are meant to corss. A massiv obstruction you need to peek out from to see if there are any cars and wether they have slowed down and noticed the amber/red.

Are you talking about outside the police station? Maybe the lorry blocking the vehicle entrace? There are always cop cars parked around there because A) They work there and B) There is a KFC

No no, I only mention the coppers because they were next to the HGV. It was HGV that was parked on teh crossing. The plod cars were in their usual spots.

Parking on the Zig Zags on pedestrian crossings is always illegal, although I suspect a genuine emergency vehicle, Fire Engine, Police car, Ambulance etc would not be prosecuted with blue lights on etc, in a genuine emergency.

Sadly as is so often the case, the Police chose to prosecute only some offenders. Rarely policemen. Unfair? Yes. Illegal? Probably.

Just the way it is.

Ditto 150 MPH in a non emergency drive by a Policeman. Same rules apply.

For ambulance: ambulances can park on zig zags at anything (and do not need to have blue lights on) when dealing with a patient: this includes going into a property to collect or return a patient. Ambulances are not exempt from dangerous parking though.

How about this for a stupid zig zag:

You can park in front of that shop on the left with the benches outside quiet legally. The paint hasn't worn away, it is painted that way.

Wrong. A vehicle being used for police, fire or ambulance purposes is exempt from the prohibition on stopping on crossing zig zags. There is no requirement that it is an emergency or that blue lights are used (that said it is not something I would do if it wasn't an emergency)

There are also other classes of vehicle e.g. road maintenance vehicles, which are also permitted to stop in the controlled area in certain circumstances.
