the news said:

A policeman had to be cut out of his vehicle after it collided with another vehicle at the junction of Fratton road and Hampshire street in Buckland.
Crash investigation officers are looking into reports that the officer was illegally turning right from a left hand only lane when the accident happened.
Police sealed of Fratton road between its junctions with Lake road and Kilmiston close after the accident yesterday afternoon while the officer was being freed.
It is believed that both cars were heading out of Hampshire street when the 1.30pm accident happened.
Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to slice off the top of the vehicle.
Passer-by John Buckland, 52 of New road Buckland, Portsmouth, said: "It's a shock to see somthing like this. You don't expect to see police cars involved in accidents."
The policeman was removed from the vehicle carefully by paramedics - a precaution in case he had suffered spinal injuries.
The officer, a 39-year-old father-of-two based at Southsea, was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, and was this morning still undergoing tests to discover the extent of his injuries. Police refused to name him.

Not good news. But I suspect there's rather more to this sentence than they are letting on here.

If the officer made a mistake, whilst on routine patrol, he should be and will be dealt with like any other motorist. ie: points and a fine.

If he was on an emergency run, he will still be to blame, but there might be mitigating circumstances, but they won't absolve him from the fact that he has caused the accident and nobody else.

Lets hope neither he nor the people from the other car are seriously injured.

"My Profile" photos.

Interviewed this week.

Looks like I'll be getting reported for summons... hopefully only "due care".

Unless, of course, the Bench decide to impose a similar penalty on me...

I don't recall that sentence being in the issue I read. They might have pulled it because it might not have been the correct thing to publish.

according to mrs tigerbear (another paramedic in the family ) he was in such a bad state that they called for a doctor from QAH to administer a higher grade of pain relief.
cant say on the other driver (mrs didnt treat that one) but the copper was in and out of conciousness and his face looked like a lump of strawberry jam

No...dealt with like any other motorist...........(Sect 3 RTA1988)

Castigation will no doubt come into it later before possible additions on both the officers civilian and police driving licences. Nobody is saying speed was a factor.

That is of course if the officer was to blame. The full circumstances have not been made available, it would seem, and the originally cast blame on the officer makes a more newsworthy story than.."Policecar has accident with other car...50/50 fault...In other news today....."

Doesn't sell paper that, does it?

The main thing is that no one was hurt, especially Dibble - and someone was apprehended.

Result and thank god no one was hurt.

RichB..

Sorry...I can see it's a joke now I've re-read it...
It was the word rich at the end...I thought you'd put it meaning 'Rich, coming from the police', instead you mean 'Rich' as in your name...

I've smacked my hand mate...
