i was pulling out of a petrol forecourt, when a car pulls in to park in the air/water bay,he enters via what i pressumed was the exit nearly crashing in to me ,there was no signs to denote no entry but common sense tells me he was in the wrong,i was not going to tell him of his mistake as he was fuming and bursting with steroids and testosterone, simply passified him(fight or flight)but when i was driving away thought he didn't even know he was in the wrong.
should petrol garages be obliged to put up entry and exit signs

Not really. Just be aware of potential hazards such as this.

If there's no sign to show 'no entry' then surely it is perfectly acceptable to enter and exit from this point? Of course you need to look where you are going, maybe in your assumption that the exit was an exit and not an entrance you weren't expecting such an action/car?

just a few days ago i saw a man pull up in front of the air/water machine, pull the water hose out (ignoring the out of order sign) and try to apply it to his tyres! wtf? when nothing happened he got annoyed, slammed it back in its housing and drove off.
i mean, maybe hes lucky the water was broken but how are these people alive? do people not have brains anymore?
sorry, i know this admittedly isnt the main thrust of your post, but its kind of on topic and im sure will strike a chord with many!
how long does it take to fill a tyre? i can do all 4 in less than 1:30 - so why do people bimble around and mess about? happily for me i was paid by the hour to sit there and watch them roll thier dust caps under the car, but now im on my own time, next time im behind one ill say FFS ill do it!
perhaps im being too harsh? i mean, its good that they maintain their cars but really, tyres should be checked weekly so they should have some practice by now no?

I observe the unwritten rule that you use the first entrance when turning in left and the second entrance when turning in right. In this way the petrol station forecourt runs in the same direction as the nearest bit of road. 90%+ of people seem to do this - even without signs.

But it's the 10% you need to be wary of... then there's those stations which are sited at roundabouts or junctions and are accessible by 2 or 3 different roads each heading in different directions ....
