Police officers deliver baby girl

A baby girl was delivered by two police officers in Stockport after her parents realised they would not have enough time to drive to the hospital. The couple, from Chapel-en-le Frith in Derbyshire, were on the A6 on their way to Stepping Hill Hospital. They stopped outside Hazel Grove police station and the father ran inside calling for help. PC Jeanette Lamb, who trained as a nurse, helped deliver Libby just after 1530 BST on Friday. Shortly afterwards, both parents and baby Libby were taken to Stepping Hill Hospital by ambulance. PC Jacqui Bass, who has been a police officer for 10 years, said: "I heard the man shouting and wondered what was going on. "When I found out that his partner was in labour I ran outside and immediately radioed for an ambulance. "It all happened so quickly and I'm glad Jeanette was on hand to help." PC Jeanette Lamb said: "The woman was just about to give birth but she was sat in the front seat of the car so I asked her to lay down in the back seat to make her more comfortable. "The baby was born in a matter of minutes and I wrapped her up in a coat that was in the car and gave her straight to her mum. "I was a nurse in the army for nine years but I can honestly say that this is the first baby I have ever delivered. "I'm pleased for the parents and happy we were able to help them."
