Hi Guys,
Just returned from my local Tescos to find a parking ticket on the windscreen for parking across two spaces.
I want to write a good complaint and appeal letter to the ticket people explaining that, in my experience, if you park in a normal space next to the numpties who have no consideration for others, more often than not a nice chunk is taken out of my door. Also, with my 6'4" passenger the door has to be open fully for him to get out and in.

I was just protecting my brand new lotus. Is that wrong?
am I out of line?
What should I write back?
The ticket is from private contractors so it will be uphill but I had a genuine reason for parking there. the car park was virtually empty when I arrived and I parked as far away as possible.

Ignore it.

Hows it enforceable?

Was this private land? Surely they have no legal authority to fine you if that's the case.

Edited to add I do this all the time at Safeways for exactly the same reason.

You deserve everything you ing get.

Park properly or dont park there at all. End of.

If you dont want your Lotus or whatever damaged, dont park it there.

Its very simple. If you dont want to get bitten, dont act like a tw@t

Like clamping, wouldn't they have to have a 'no parking across 2 bays or you will be clamped/fined' sign on display?

Ghost- sorry mate, but don't agree at all. If it was a packed car park and he was across two 'mother and child' spaces, then yeah- you're taking the piss.

However- having owned a few decent cars, it makes me furious when some kin' dickhead with a wreck they couldn't care about (or lady-driving 4 x 4) opens their door with even less consideration for someone elses car and then buggers off.

Nice new car? Plenty of spaces? Yeah- go for your life, take two spaces to protect your pride and joy mate- I do. the numpties who think otherwise.

I gave up parking my Elise like a good boy when, having parked it correctly in a bay, came back to find another vehicle had parked correctly in the adjacent bay.

Trouble is, with an Elise, you need to fully open the door to get in or out, which I couldn't do in the legitimate space available.

Furthermore, a lot of the 'expert' parkers just dont see the car as it's so low.

Park accross 2 bays mate if you have to - it's your valuable investment, so look after it as best you can, 'cos no other bugger will!

The people that moan are the ones most likely to get into a chavmobile and scratch your car.

It IS annoying yes. I have had a go at some numpty f**kwit that opened her door on to my lowly company drive (Rover100) the other day. little dent, she didnt see me sitting in the car at the time...

Not that I care about my car that much but due to principle, I got out and had a go, but the bottom line is that there is NOTHING I or anyone else can do to stop this behavior from happening in GB where noone else cares about other peoples stuff.

So - if I did care about my car / had a Lotus / whatever - I would NOT PARK IT AT TESCOS if I thought it would be damaged.

Very simple premise of if you value you car and you know it may get damaged somewhere, dont park it there. If you are going to show a supreme display of arrogance by "doing what you want" on other peoples land, expect problems.

End of. Shit but thats the way the world is. Unless one man and his Lotus can change the world overnight, thats the way its gonna stay until something is done about the sad state of things today.

Thanks for the contructive critisism Ghost. And I take Your point. But i wasnt doing it to be annoying and I certainly wasnt in anybody's way or preventing others from using the other 500 or so free parking spaces.

it was early this morning, empty car park and I didnt want anybody to damage may car...again. Alright?

Thanks for your calm reply. I did get out of the wrong side of bed this morning in case anyone is wondering...

The only reason I get Pi$$ed off with this behavior is when it all started at a busy garden centre. 2 spaces left, a BMW drive came in and parked right in the middle of 2 spaces when there were other drivers (older and some disabled) looking for spaces.

He got out, I said something to the effect of "thats not very fair is it", he sneered at me and said " em" and walked off.

It seems to be the attitude of the most people that park like that which is why it rubs me up the wrong way. Obviously you know your car may get damaged if you park at that due to your reasons so - why did you park there at all?

Look after your pride and joy properly. How do you know that that carpark is not going to get really busy in no time at all?

I would have thought so.

Just to make a point, I drive a car that is worth less than £5k, and I get ing annoyed when some clown dents it (the latest mark was done yesterday when I parked away from everything yet some one still managed to mark it). My car might not be worth much, but it's mine and it would be honestly described as in excellent condition if muppets didn't put little dings in the side of it!

I don't agree with bad parking, but if you've got a car that's cost you loads to buy, I don't blame you for taking up two spaces. Just beware the idiots that target cars parked across two or more spaces. My brother's car was damaged for this very reason.

Ghost. I wasnt parking there to be arrogant. But I know it wouldnt have filled up (it never, ever does). I also hate bad parking and I should not have any more writes than the next person. However if there is an opportunity to protect my pride and joy (and only car)I will take it.
Perhaps we should all leave our cars unlocked and with no alarms on if prople are ging to take it anyway.

Like I said- if there are only a few spaces left, then yeah, don't take the piss. But, in certain circumstances you take precautions to protect your pride and joy whilst not totally inconveniencing others.

Basically use the same theory as on the open road-

"Treat everyone like an idiot until proven otherwise"

I've tried parking as far away from poss. at various car parks.

Inevitably, despite the fact the car park in your far off corner is deserted save for your car when you leave it, there will be a muppet in a cavalier or metro squeezed cosily up to you when you return.

.....he deserved a good keying!

I think you have to be resonable, parking at the unpopular end of a mostly empty car park really IS NOT a problem, is it? Otherwise it would be akin to getting 3 points minus £60 for doing 31 in a 30, which really is unreasonable. My sympathies maverick25
