Just recieved my first 3 points in all my 3 years of driving My insurance is up for renewal next month so was just wondering if the insurance company's have any way of finding out how many points are on people's licenses, without you actually telling them?!

I guess if I had a crash though, it would be void if they then found out about the points?!

I've just had a search round on the forum but couldn't find anything on this subject!

Any help much appreciated!

I've had 3 points for over 2 years now and I've had 2 accidents in the past and both times the insurance company has asked for a photocopy of my licence so I guess that's how they check?

The small print on your policy requires you to inform them immediately any change occurs to the underwritten risk. Receiving points is a material change to the underwritten risk, so if you don't tell them you are in breach of the contract for them to insure you. in other words you would then be uninsured. If you had a big accident you could be made bankrupt as a result since the insurance company would pay out then sue you for the total costs incurred by them. It's not worth the risk and for 3 points they are unlikely to load you up.
Now, this is the time for you to buy a Road Angel or similar camera site locator plus a jammer.

Surely the fact I was going almost 10mph over the limit was what really drew the attention!

Hiya James.
I don't know mate, as you've not told us the circumstances.
What I was pointing out was that any car with something out of the ordinary, especially anything illegal usually gets my attention first...
