...the people who drive with their foglights on in broad daylight are the same people who drive around with no lights at all in thick fog? This morning i left for work in a pea souper, Turned on my new foglights for the first time so other people could see me. Half of the cars passing me had no lights at all and i could clearly see the trademark precision worn baseball cap on the driver and foglights fitted to the car, save for the selected few. Most of the people using their lights correctly were older drivers. wtf?

The chav brigade see foglights as a cool accessory on their sh$te car. You don't use them to alert other road users that you are there!

I think the highway code says (I will be corrected when I am wrong!) when visibility is less than 50 or 100m, ie when foggy or intense spray on motorways etc.

These muppets have no comprehension of this, hence you generally only see the more knowledgeable drive with them on!

JWO you're correct..

Seriously Reduced Visibilty (less than 100m) = Fog Lights...

I like to extract £30 from all chavs breaking this law......It just pleases me so much...

As for people doing things at the wrong time...it's all over the place...

In my town we have 24hour bus lanes that people contravene and I ticket..£30 again..!
We also have restricted hours bus lanes (7.30am-9.30am) and (4.30pm-6.30pm). However, out of these times you still see drivers reluctant to use them! ....

Perhaps with the advent of the computer based training for teh driver theory test these folk just haven't read the Highway Code. I know of 2 drivers that have passed their test without doing so this year.
Maybe that is why the oder drivers you have observed with their lights on know when to do so, it's because they had to read it.
Just a thought.

very good point. In fact it was a question I remember clearly failing to get right on my exam when asked after the driving bit.....its the only reason I know now.

That said.....I dont know how good the average person (who doesnt play golf) is at judging distances like that....

Now why are you not promoting this in your press releases, Liebchen?

Instead of "Don't let your driving say it with flowers. Slow Down!"

Why do you not have bus adverts with extracts from HC?

Why not encourage people to read it - use the bus to advertise the HC as right riveting read?

Advertise the booklet on knowing road signs?

That would be easy and relatively cheap to get posters made.

Ie (DfT golden oldies - so should have no problem mit copyright!)

And why not introduce some kind of training initiative like your neighbours in Lancs? (But that does not mean - introduce and entrap people just to get bums on seats - we mean fair and square one!)

And as for your comments on M6 - our guys did tell you about the German DVD approach. What is your opinion on that? Either repsond here or to the Tiger who is playing with you on your own forum!

Does anybody else get annoyed when you are in a queue of traffic driving in reduced visibility but the numpty infront of you leaves his rear fogs on? I always make a point of turning mine off if someone is within 50ft of the back of my car to avoid dazzling them.

And another thing ... when you are the lead vehicle stationary at temporary traffic signals where the obstruction is on the opposite side, do you turn your headlights off to avoid blinding oncoming traffic?

Does the lead vehicle when the situation is reversed?

The answer to the latter is most commonly, "No" ... and when it's a lorry or other vehicle with headlamps mounted at eye-level (BTW - when I'm in the Tiv, that's most other cars!) it's particularly annoying, distracting and potentially dangerous!

Sadly, numpties have no "thinking aparatus" ... by definition!

Re Buslanes - I used one out of the 'Bus lane' hours the other day, and some bastard had parked his car in it a little way down the road and abandoned it. This left me stuck in the bus lane and no other driver would let me out - I assume they thought I was abusing the bus lane and trying to get ahead of them. I ended up sat there for about 5 minutes as traffic was very busy.

Talking about daylight lights, when riding my motorbike (retired from it now) I always kept the dipped beam on. Now we know that Volvo cars run daytime dipped beams and I heard mutterings that soon all cars will need to do same. Is this true? and if so pity poor joe on his motorbike who will be invisible in a hoarde of lights?

Big debate about this...

Final story recently was 'No'...it's not going to be the case and the next review will be 2006...

A few motorcycle manufacturers are now making bikes with daylight running lights on all the time..ie you only have dipped or high beam to choose from..No off/side/dipped switch..

Sounds like that should be a resricted hours bus lane.

Personally, I'm not a fan of bus lanes...I think we pay enough in road taxes etc and therefore the whole road should be used.

However, if they are there then they shall be obeyed and I shall deal with any miscreants who abuse them..
