Hi all.

I was nearly involved in a collision just a few minutes ago, and I am wondering what I should do about it.

My friend was slowing down (about 15MPH), as he was just about to drop me off. This was in a very built up area, approaching a T-junction. The offending driver turns left into the road, towards us, accelerating hard. He then proceeds to pull out into the wrong side of the road and drives STRAIGHT TOWARDS US. It was only AFTER the last possible moment when he pulls back to the correct side. Had my friend not braked hard, there would almost certainly been a collision (no I would not have called that an accident). The offending driver passed us, still accelerating, his engine was revving very hard. This guy was driving like a maniac and was definitely driving dangerously.

It was a small-ish red car, maybe a Golf.
I managed to get the registration mark in the fraction of a second that I had to look at it - M323 HPE. Judging by the way he was tearing around the minor/urban roads, I can only assume the driver lives local (Southsea, Portsmouth).

The only description that I can give to the young man's expression is 'crazed'. I think this driver needs some urgent education, or removal from our roads, before he kills someone.

Can any BiB assist me with this?

By all means report the incident to the police...Who knows what the police might find in relation to the vehicle and the driver.

As for the chances of a conviction. Slim. IMO.

Some forces wont take the complaint on if there's on likelihood of a conviction, others are more optimistic.

At the very least, a BiB would do well to go and visit the other driver. You could suggest that to them..ie: "I don't really want to make an official complaint, but I would appreciate it if you would visit the other driver and have a 'word' with him"

I was following a van yesterday down a slip road onto a main road - which is only single carriageway.

The van driver (who was higher than the rest of us) got to the bottom of the slip and then whooshed straight out to pass the car he had been following - straight into the path of a huge line of peak hour traffic coming the other way. Much screeching and swerving, whil I chucked out the anchors so that I didn't get battered by the inevitable debris.

Luckily they all missed each other, I have no idea how. Van man then proceeded to tailgate the car driver, flashing lights etc (we were in a busy queue as well!)

Happily, even "inevitability" can fall victim to Murphy's Law - Streaky
