SC. I have seen a few questions in threads asking the above, but have yet to see an answer! Due to your comprehensive knowledge of police procedures and the law, I am uncertain as to whether you are the Chief Constable of Somewhereshire, or a lollipop lady with a big pile of reference books! Obviously you are somewhere in between , so come on - spill the beans!

Steve my dear man...

I'm a police officer and a lowly constable at that...Paid to enforce the laws of this land in the good humoured and good natured way that I see fit...

I'm honoured that you think I've got a lot of reference books as all of my posts are from my experience and knowledge. Having said that, I often think I need to know more things and should study more..so perhaps after reading your post, I shouldn't put myself down..

I know you personally think I might be a despot dictator, but i'm not at all. I'm not in favour of Safety Camera Partnerships at all. They have their uses, but the negative side of them outweighs the positive. I'm all for more Trafpol numbers and for better sentencing for criminals who commit crime offences (burglary, theft, assault etc).
I'm entirely happy with the speed limits in this country and the current policies on prosecutions.

I joined the job in 1997 to put my own 'slant' on policing and Do something about what I thought was wrong with my town instead of bleating about it in tap rooms etc.

Regards,
Gareth

ps: I'm well aware that I post too many replies on Pistonheads...but if the majority are happy with what I've got to say and feel my imput is both relevant and helpful, then I'll continue to do so..

No problem with the amount of posts. Some of your posts are informative and amusing. As I said on another thread, if I agreed with everything you and other PHers said, it would be a pretty bloody boring forum.

However, please answer the question. Agreed you are a constable, but any special department? Or are you what in my younger days was known as "the local bobby"?

Incidently, I would disagree that you are paid to enforce the law. I would think it more appropriate to say that you are responsible for catching those who transgress said laws.

I peruse rather than contribute to SP & L but I for one find Street Cop's perspective from 'the other side of the fence' entertaining, fascinating and informative.

Keep it up SC.

I find it incredible. Where the hell does he get the time? Is there more than one SC out there? Is this a whole constablary logging on with the one user name?
Lets try to notice different characteristics!

He is the savior of myself, MrsFish and others that already post way too much but can now relax in the knowledge that we are not the worst!

I work in a department called "Pro-Active Community Safety" In recent years, my force has totally revamped each department. I work in the mobile pro-active department. My team currently deals with the problems that everyday beat bobbies don't have time or expertise to resolve. For example; if a certain area is subject to car crime, we target it for an unlimited time in order to deal with the problem. We are also involved with stolen vehicle operations, such as today 'off road motorcycle' operation which was as a response to local residents complaints of nuisance scrambler bikes. We also follow up court appearances; for example details of people disqualified at court (for whatever reason) are filtered into my department to see if the drivers are flouting their bans and continuing to drive. I am an advanced driver/rider and our team uses marked and unmarked vehicles to fascilite our work. My department is also involved in partnership working with the council to problem solve. For example Road Engineering at accident/collision sites. We also deal with nuisance youths on bloody go-peds/buzz boards or whatever they're called

Now in the next couple of months, I might be moving to Motorways/Fatal Accidents/Policing side...I will keep you informed..

Hope that answers your questions

Shame those same resources cant be spared in areas where burglary is high. (Not having a pop at you personally, just fed up with being robbed and SFA being done)

What the problem with Gopeds?

I agree, but we (the police) have to succumb to public complaints and certain areas are plagued with gopeds.

Residents and parish councillors write in and ring in with complaints about Gopeds tearing up and down the pavements and if they kill somebody what will police do then? What happens if they damage my car? My wife can't sleep on a night! etc etc etc..So consequently we have to 'respond'.. Yep it's boring and sad to see a 10 year old crying his eyes out when stopped..

I much prefer the meatier side of my role..

One evening during the first few days of SC joining I refreshed the "What's New" list (everything). I'm sure that the SC posts outnumbered everyone else put together. I think had refreshed it again straight away since I thought that maybe there was an error and every user was called StreetCop !!
Not complaining - interesting posts.

University of life - Liebchen!

Would rather know the cops understand real life than the "according to the text book" version. Look what it done! Dick Ed read something and now he thinks "heroin is not very dangerous!" (And I shall plug that one on each opportunity - Dicky B (as I know you (or your cronies) must lurk 'ere!)

Hurrah! Endlich sind wir uns einig! Looked up your profile, Mr Von Puppadum - woher kommst Du eigentlich?

Eben!

Hmm! Would argue that motorway could be increased to 80mph and that we can all name A and B roads with daft limits.

Would argue that "just over blip" which all drivers regardless of skill commit on any journey and the unlucky "ping" gets hard deal compared to PTT and very deliberate speeders!

Some members of my family touring over here at mo' though - would argue otherwise- having bent my ear - as they have been on receiving end of numpty hogger in L2 and the L3 boxer the other day!
