Have done extensive research into your idea of putting freight on rails. All looked good until I came upon this:

And who do you think you are sir. George Stephenson.

They're out to catch little shits who throw lumps of concrete off bridges at drivers, and suchlike. But they use it to pull "normal" trains as well.

That would be interesting, doing a hard stop in that thing.

Wonder what the driving course was like?

Lovely story from the GWR steam days at Sonning Cutting. A pull-wire snapped just as the up Penzance express was approaching the home signal at around 90mph, bringing the signal to the danger position. The driver slammed on the brakes, and the entire train locked up (that would have been some 100 wheels!). It slid at slowly diminishing speed past the signal-box and disappeared in a shower of sparks. Some time later a very red-faced driver appeared from the direction of travel, puffed up the signal-box steps, and in halting words, enquired what the "thundering heck" the signalman was playing at. When the problem was explained, the driver was mollified, but commented that, "You'll need the gangers and a replacement train out here. There's a mile and a half of track I've ground an inch or so off, I've flat-spotted the tyres (100 of them, remember) and the brakes are welded on.

They just show them the way! (A pun for those that understand railway-speak!)
