So on Saturday morning I was driving around the M25 to pick up my sister, brother-in-law and nephew from Heathrow airport.

The section between the M4 and M3 is undergoing significant roadworks. A 40mph speed limit is in force.

Its clearly signed. Its also laden with GATSOs. These GATSOs are bright yellow, highly visible and have many, many warning signs prior. Its also an obvious roadworks area which drivers should know will be "protected" by these infernal things.

There is NO WAY anyone paying attention could possibly be caught by one of these. Possibly at night and in the dark...maybe...but this was bright daylight - excellent visibility.

And as I drove along the road, observing the speed limit, I noted the cameras going off again and again and again.

Cars would fly through at 50mph DESPITE seeing the car in front get nicked!

ARE PEOPLE BLIND, STUPID OR WHAT!???!?!?

There was *no need* at all to give the SCP the sodding satisfaction of nicking anyone at all!

This one thing on the motorway that really ps me off (almost as much as people who sit in the middle lane)

I lost track over the weekend the amount I overtook before the roadworks that then overtook me in the 50mph limit doing 70+. I then overtook them again after the roadworks had finished.

By annoying!

Numpty's been in motorway roadworks before, where the speed limit has been (brain cell flickers into life...) 50 MPH. So that's what they do, even though there are bl**dy big 40 MPH signs.

I am no fan of cameras but i used to see this on a section of the M5 about a year ago when they were resurfacing.

Saw 4 cars being caught one after the other on the other side of the carrageway one night

Maybe there should be a further offense of "being caught by a blatiently obvious speed camera = driving without due care!"

To answer the question, Yes - people are blind. I think I've told this tale before, so I'll keep it short. Walking back to the nick form Court a few years back, I witness a very minor junction shunt. I spoke to the old deary who was at fault, and asked her where she was going. She pointed at the parade of shops the other side of the junction and said;
"The opticians - I picked these new glasses up this morning, they're dreadful, I can't see a thing!"

Morning mate.

The rider, who took the pictures, got away with a bit whiplash. Apparently he was still moving forward when the car hit.

The driver and his mrs were both in their 80s

Having personally had a car written off by an old boy in the past, we need to get these coffin dodgers off the roads with mandatory retests every 5 years and annual eye tests, that is if the government are serious about reducing the accident rate.

Yep it's very difficult...especially with the Human Rights Act etc etc..

The police really need to have a tight case (in the name of everyones safety) to get licences revoked.

I remember one a couple of years ago where an old guy hired an automatic Renault Laguna and his foot got trapped in the pedals as he was reversing. This took place in a multi storey car park and resulted in the old guy running down a small boy and killing him..

Dreadful circumstances...even for the old guy..

The government are keen enough to ignore the Human Rights Act when it comes to identifying speeding drivers.

I guess there's too many votes at stake to pass that one.

I think more importantly than identifying speeders is when the Human Rights Act is brought into play for things like keeping murderers, child molesters, bank robbers and drug dealers under surveillance.

You wouldn't believe the rules and regulations and proportionality etc etc that has to be met to keep tabs on criminals and execute warrants etc etc...

I work for a building contractor and on one site in Chase Farm Hospital, Enfield our soon-to-be-finished building was somewhat set back by an old codger, in an auto beemer, who got confused with his pedals and drove through the wall.

The last training drivers of this certain age would have had was when they were given their driving license by the army for successfully starting and stopping. (This is apparently how an old friend of mine got his HGV license).

That gives me the shivers - I saw a similar thing last year - slip road off the M1 onto a roundabout. I'm driving round the roundabout approaching the slip light and see the strangest sight. Bike perfectly upright, but firmly wedged into the bonnet of a 'Coathanger man' Mondeo. Both parties looking at the scene and scratching their heads in bewilderment.
I wished I'd had my camera with me, it was such an unusual sight.

Ah, just remember that 20% of the people on our roads are unlicensend, uninsured, untaxed and probably cannot be traced by their number plate. So when you see people speed throught obvios cameras, we know why!

Also, I remember Tonyrec saying that he was following a driver down the A40, the driver made no attempt to slow down for a camera, Tony gave him a tug and guess what, he wasn't licensend, insured or taxed.
