Passing through a small village this morning and noticed a sly parked plod pointing a radar gun at me, no speed camera warning signs , was maybe doing a little under 40 in a 30 limit, I was expecting him to come after me but didn't, will I be getting a letter through the post???

No need for prior warning signs etc

Your indicated 40 was more than likely 37 ish

It's more than likely not RADAR it's now LASER

Normally you would be stopped at the side of the road, however they can do it by post, so a 14 day wait to see if anything drops through the door (if you are name keeper on the V5)

As said above, if you were indicated at under 40 your actual speed would be around 36.

You may well get a warning letter if it was a Neighbourhood Policing campaign but you shall have to wait and see!

Are you sure he was a real cop and not one of the busybody Community Speedwatch volunteers we have here in my village?

If he is a plastic-polis, he can tell the real police your reg number and speed and they might to warn you about your unacceptable behaviour.

I don't know the conditions and layout where you were doing your 40ish in a 30 so won't comment on whether it was acceptable or not.

He was in a new-ish 5 series BMW, looked official, wide open road, just as I was coming in to the village , before any houses etc, so no real risk early on a Sunday morning, just clocked him at the last minute parked half behind a tree

I guess it depends really. If he lives his life like you do ...... coming out with st replies like the above, then maybe not.

Sunday morning, I'm guessing no traffic, no one around and he is aware of his surroundings. ........ then yes as long as he isnt going any faster.

It most probs was a forty for a zillion years before the 'you can't be capable of driving to the conditons' safety bizzy bodies came along.

Hardly speeding is it? If it was 40 past a school then fair do's , but I'm talking nothing in sight, just past the end of the national speed limit, it's a money making idea by the plod, so they can drive round in new bm's and flash cars.

You were passing through a small village where people using the road expect vehicles to be travelling at 30mph or so, driving at around 30% more than the speed limit and not paying enough attention to notice a speed trap.

Just admit you were doing something wrong and stop trying to make an alternate fantasy story out of it where you're the innocent one.

Think you'll find its the government that decide on the laws and fines, not the Police wink.

You took the risk, if you get caught its down to you, no one else.

Well if that's the case and you don't want to stir then keep your small minded and ill informed comments to yourself then about it being a money making scam etc because you're just being pathetic....

Exceeding the posted limit is often known as speeding smile

Isn't it time you got over yourself and stopped posting bks like that? You have no idea of what the road conditions were like and it is entirely possible that 36 caused no problem at all, other than breaking a rule.

What am I supposed to be 'getting over'? My opinion on the OP's situation would have always been and will remain the same.

What I know of road conditions is that it was a 30mph limit, that is in a quiet village, that the OP thought he could have been pinged at just below 40 and that visibility of the road conditions ahead was poor enough that a Police Officer carrying out a speed check wasn't visible until seemingly almost too late.

That tells me the OP is not a victim with a cause worth complaining about, but yet another moron who can't take responsibility for their actions.

Moron? Original post was nothing to do with my driving , or the speed I was going? Please tell me where once I have said, or given the impression I am the victim, the thread I postedis in a section called 'speed, plod & the law' I asked whether I should be expecting a penalty thru the post, yes I was breaking the law , for which if I get a ticket for I will happily take on the chin. My opinion on speeding laws differs from yours, no need for name calling???

These things aren't black and white, as you claim.

If I got caught by a plod hiding behind a tree on a Dunwoody Rural 50, where I used to achieve 90 - 100, pre NSL, I would meet all your "moron" criteria, but would still be indignantly miffed.
