Took a look on www.astucia.co.uk/ as a follow up to the new speed camera thread

Anyway noticed the link to their hazlights section at www.hazlight.com/ and these seem quite an interesting idea to me.

It is claimed by one reviewer that these are in use in UK. I've never seen any used in anger.

Anyone here seen / used them, are they any good? Cost?

We had some on test a good few years back - the "emergency service/professional use" ones.

The case itself basically plugs into the cigarette lighter/auxiliary socket, and the studs slot into a charging rack inside the case. The studs are on a permanent trickle charge inside the case, and automatically switch on when they are removed from the case.

They were OK, but unfortunately, they weren't type approved. The bigger "vizi flashers" at least had the advantage of having retro reflective tape, so were some use even with a flat battery. The studs were obviously much smaller and lighter, and were pretty much gurarnteed not to be flat in the boot. Don't know how long they last for once removed though.

Mindo you, neither the studs or vizi flashers are any good in daylight... That's when you need plenty cones and plenty signs (which people then choose to ignore, becxause they "just live down there").

Is it just me or does anyone else hate the standard hazard flashers on cars & trucks (all indicators flashing)?

Many many times I've seen what looks like a truck just about to pull out of a layby, moved over to lane 2 to let them out, only to find that they are not indicating but the vehicle parked behind them is obscuring their near-side indicator thus turning hazard lights into indicators.

Why don't hazards flash at a different rate to indicators?

'Cos then you'd just assume it was indicators with a blown bulb!

Just so you know; indicators must flash between 60 and 120 times per minute...

Altogether now...."Not a lot of people know that.."
