Basingstoke Trafpol Closing in September

Just read in my local paper that Basingstoke Police traffic department is going to close down on 1st September. They're going to move to Farnborough, 28 miles away. I presume that this will affect our own xxplod. The Hampshire police Roads Policing Unit say that the reason is for "consolidation of resources".

Hmm, I wonder how many KSIs there'll be on the roads around here before someone works out that this isn't a very smart idea ? Lets see now, there won't be a significant impact on the 2004 figures, the 2005 figures won't be reviewed until 2006. Then we'd better give it another couple of years to see if there really is a trend and that it wasn't a blip, so that's 2008. Then it'll take another year or so to get all the necessary committees approval, say 2010. Then another year to get the men to move back, so that's 2011. All this excepting any delays introduced by a couple of General Elections.

I suppose they could move in some scameras to help cut speeds as an interim measure though. Yes, in fact I can hear the scamera partnerships putting the finalising details of profit projections on their 5-year business plans right now...

N.B. The local scamera company had a job advert in the paper just last week so those business plans are probably already complete and signed off !
