Take a look at this transcript from a recent parliamentary committee hearing "TRANSCRIPT OF ORAL EVIDENCE" to be published as HC 105 - iii :
------------------------------------------------------
Mr Jamieson: The speed camera essentially just tests whether a driver is driving over a specified speed limit and ... (rhubarb removed)
Q608 Chairman: Mr Gooding, is this something new on speed cameras?
Mr Gooding: Specifically, we are aware that some chief constables do have teams specifically going back through the records of people who have been caught on speed cameras, working on the principle that people who disregard one law tend to disregard several, and they then would pursue those in the sort of intelligent way you are suggesting to see what other offences they might be associated with.
----------------------------------------------------
I have read Streetcop saying how a driver's previous may be used to inform his decision-making on a speed issue, but this reverse application makes my toes curl. So a disabled pensioner, a few mph over the limit going to buy budgie seed, then her pension, gets a knock on the door? Don't say 'not possible' as just such a person was jailed for major drug smuggling recently, and there will be somebody with a criminal record fitting ANY profile, this could be used to justify anything. Which forces are doing this?
