I have a red light and a pedestrian has a red light

If I run my red light I get really told off

If he runs his red light he doesn't get told off

Even more so is if I have a green light he OBVIOUSLY has a red light. If he walks on his red light and I drive on my green light and "accidently" run the c**t over then it's still my fault

Why is this ???

Because you are safely cocooned in a ton of metal and he only has skin and bones to 'protect' him?

Although the pedestrian might be in the wrong, it doesn't mean you can run them over.

Weren't you taught that 'red' means stop, 'amber' means stop and 'green' means stop if the way is not clear / safe to proceed?

If you get to a crossroads and the other traffic has stopped blocking your way across, do you smash into them as your light is green and you have right of way?

Cars are hard, people are squishy. Tends not to go down well when they meet. Not condoning people running traffic crossings but the law is largely on the pedestrian's side with things like this and won't change.

This is because a pedestrian is not subject to the same rules as a motorist, largely down to the amount of damage and injury a pedestrian can cause, and society deciding that the onus is on those with power to take care of those without.

If you find this difficult in concept or practice I suggest you stop driving.

im not saying break the law

If I go on my GREEN light it is my right to
If they go on their GREEN light that is their right to

Why should they not abbide by their red light and make me stop for their stupidity

Other countries do you for walking on a red man even if there is no traffic about

I think you can be "done" in the UK too, but only if your action causes an accident. Think the fine is £150.

Dear Pistonheads,

Why do I have to stop for people or animals or traffic or accidents or the law or physics or rainbows or my mum calling me home for my tea?

It almost seems like the system is not set up entirely in my favour. I am quite prepared to have a tantrum over this.

Yours marvellously,

King Internet III

Because there are no laws saying that the pedestrian can't cross through a red light. Even if there were, he could just move a foot down the road and cross off the crossing.

Personally, I think the system works very well for both drivers and pedestrians as it is.

Its just these little things that makes you go bald at an earlier age

Its just the little things I feel need ironing out

I covered the same thing in the "knob" thread. You've had instruction and passed a test before you're allowed out in a vehicle, whereas anyone is allowed to walk along the pavement and cross the road. You and I know how stupid you'd have to be to walk out in front of a moving vehicle even if you're at a pedestrian crossing, but it seems that many pedestrians don't consider it. In fact, most people in general don't consider, or aren't prepared to accept, the consequences of their own actions. And not just on the road.

Sort of understand but seeming as we live in a country so obsessed with equal rights does this mean we would both be at fault if he walked on a green man and I mowed him down on my red light :-P

Its equal and its fair.

I know it wouldn't stand up in court at all

All my point was is why do they even have green and red men if they technically mean nothing ??
