On another thread, someone used the phrase "typical truck driver".

I`ve got me crash helmet and body armour on, so lets have it - what`s your description of the typical LGV driver?

Fat, Smelly, big bushy ungroomed beard tatooes on both fore-arms, and educated to the level of a arctic walrus.

But that is enough about the wife, i think a LGV driver is usually a very pleasant, well groomed (man) who keeps his cool in any given situation. :-)

Thansk Apache. At least we have started on a positive note - it can only get worse from here!

For me there is no 'typical'. There are bad truck drivers (LGV or HGV) as there are bad car drivers. However, a car driver is probably more likely to be adversely affected by a bad truck driver than a bad car driver so that colours perceptions.

words "knacker" and "fat" spring to mind ... but in fact the last time I met a trucker whilst he was trucking was on the side of the M2 when an artic pulled over to see if he could give me a hand with the car which had just broken down. An extremely generous gesture, I thought, and one not repeated by any other motorist.

of the 4 HGV drivers I know, two keep their units fastidiously clean and are massively proud of what they do!, one is a very talented mechanic/engineer and the other is my uncle, with whom a drink/chat is a most entertaining time!

I’ve met hundreds of truck drivers.
The only thing they have in common is that they all drive trucks.

Some are as thick as two bricks while others are well read and surprisingly cultured. Most are somewhere in-between.
From my experience truck drivers are very tolerant and even-tempered people, considering how much they get fd around by transport managers or held up waiting to unload. Not to mention numptyisium on the road.

Respect.

I have "met" millions of them and the majority are polite and (very) good drivers.
Usually they are very helpful especially when the going gets rough (been helped and have helped on many an occasion) but there are always some twats who think they can use their 40 tonnes as a weapon.

I find there are two groups here in Germany who behave like ignorant RSoles, the Austrians who drive like nutters ignoring any speed limitations and are very good at hogging the overtake (20km or more!) and a company out of Switzerland called Bertschi from Dürrenäsch (other branches OK!) who drive tankers of all sorts, seem to have their limiters switched off and ignore especially no-overtaking zones at the border and general speed limits, and drive like the proverbial Scunthorpers!!! Even letters to their management meets with the cold shoulder. Friends in trafpol know them generally as dangerous drivers........ So if you see any yellow and red Bertschi tankers in germany keep well clear!!!

glad I've got that off my chest....

They don't shave as often as us
seriously, it's bad enough for a male truck driver with the lack of facilities on the UK's roads. At least a bloke can take a pee at the side of his truck. It must be a pain in the arse if you can't. They've got my respect

Hi towman.
To be honest, I find most truckers to be the most willing to pull over to let bikers pass. I think the greaseball image has long since gone. I do though, think that most drivers forget what you are doing on the road. ie your are delivering something which those irate car drivers are going to eat or use.So I bear that in mind when I encounter them. No problem with truckers in general. As far as i am concerned, they are another road user that has to be considered. Sure some are bad but you get that in all walks of life
