I was passed this morning in Herts. by a police Mercedes estate (trafpol ?)with a distinctive orange star on its rear screen- anyone know what the reason is for this logo?

I've noticed circles on rear screens before but not a star. No idea of the significance though.

Might be so the American Airforce does not send down an A10 tank buster airplane.

Probably some kind of representation of 'number of kills' like WW2 pilots had on their planes.

One 'star' equals 100 motorists caught by that officer for speeding.

Surely it would just be seen as "The Target" by any US pilot - Streaky

Know someone who won't get one then. Chap I know pulled up at lights behind a Focus in Stafford earlier in the week. Next thing he knows, Focus reverses full tilt into the front of his Discovery. Turns out Focus is cop car doing driver training!

Although his Disco emerged virtualy unscathed (unlike the Focus) what's really pissing him off is that he's now got to go back up to Stafford 'to be interviewed'.

Thanks - sounds a more likely explanation. Althaugh the other comments made today were pretty imaginative.

However, If it was an ARV , a star depicting the number of "kills" made would have me worried!

True, we all need to worry when the front wing contains a load of crosses on it.....

The circular mark is actually a sort of brown colour. It is the result of friend BiB putting his foot on the gas whilst the four-legged woolly alligator in the back is standing up wagging his tail. Car accelerates forward, dog shoots backwards and its bottom hits the rear window, leaving an obvious calling card....

It's to remind the driver which end is the pointy end and which end is the blunt end.
