A Letter the Shropshire Star Wouldn't Publish
Discussion
They've had the following two weeks now so I assume it's not going to be published. Shame, I hate it when ill-informed numpies get such a large article as the shopkeeper did.
Dear Sirs
On August 3rd you carried the story of an apparently knowledgeable road safety expert, a shopkeeper, who has started a campaign for speed cameras on the B4176 following the tragic death of a motorcyclist on the previous Wednesday.
I would very be interested to know how the inquest took place so quickly and has concluded that the accident was as a direct result of the motorcyclist exceeding the 60mph speed limit. Or perhaps it hasn’t? Could this be the usual knee-jerk, misinformed response to road accidents, that speed cameras provide a universal remedy?
Speed cameras are fast becoming discredited as a road safety strategy, as those who follow the sorry saga will know.
Perhaps we should wait for the results of the inquest into the unfortunate motorcyclist's accident. This would allow properly informed decisions to be made on the future of the B4176. It might involve some good road engineering including more of the excellent high friction surfaces that have already been laid on many bends on this smooth fast flowing road along with improved signage of hazards.
Our road safety expert concludes by saying, “it is only by luck that there aren’t accidents more frequently”. Considering the volume of traffic on the B4176, is it by luck, or is it by judgment on the part of drivers that accidents are infrequent?
Yours faithfully

Ah, the great British media! Every single article has to have some bullt opinion by a 'passer-by' or 'observer'. I DETEST the media in this country and don't believe a single lying word they spout.
Good letter by the way!
Problem is the unfortunate majority do believe everything the media tell them.
Well, everything that doesn't challenge them in any manner or cause them to think or disagree with their well-formed opinions...

Too true Iain, too true.....
It never ceases to amaze me how many people believe something simply because they "read it in the newspaper." You may as well just make it up. What gets my goat the most is how people think the BBC, the GREAT British Institution, is this impartial, truth-telling God of media. The BBC is run by a bunch of over-educated liberal do-gooders who have absolutely NO grasp of reality of modern living in 2004 Britain. They see themselves as great crusaders for the truth, whilst twisting every story to suit their rose-coloured view of life.
Rant over. What was this post about again?!!!!

I'm not a liberal, and I work for them.
The problem, as in the UK in general is this.........
there are people, and you probably know of some yourself, that are not able to control their emmotions very well. Surely you know someone who when they are in the room, you have to be carefull what you say so as not to offend them. You probably have people at work the same, in the pub, they are everywhere but they are few. NOW, what happens when you put these people in a position of responsibility?, they think that everyone else feels/thinks the same and the base line is set thus. When you look at it from this stad point, it all suddenly makes sense. That's why we can't cane children, police can't shout at scrotes, and people are more obsessed with their rites than with having responsibility.
Of course, once you have these people in power, they are only going to employ similar minded people.
The rest of us majority simply look on and wonder what the country is coming to!.
