Hi All

I was down in Southend at the weekend, I was driving along the road running along the sea front, I came around a corner and there was what I assume was a camer van.

It was a van with a tripod with what looked like 2 cameras mounted on.

The speed limit was 30 and I was probably doing 35-36 and as soon as I saw him I braked.

Was the opinion, will I get a NIP? or will I be in luck?

If you think you were doing 35 to 36, you were probably doing 33 to 34, so you should be OK as that's within 10%+2 mph.
On the M6 in Cumbria the're setting the trigger speed at 79, i.e. exactly 70+10%+2. Thus the actual speed limit on the M6 is 78 mph.

May be one of those checking cars on the road which shouldn't be.

Were there any BiB parked up after it? If so, I think they stop you there and then if there's any problem.

Sounds like an ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) van looking out for road tax dodgers, etc. Although they usually have a fleet of plod vehicles in attendance, they don't have to.

Second that, sound like ANPR no need to worry.

When I've been down to Southend on business I have seen a red van with a mini Gatso placed in front of it positioned on the seafront a few times.

The camera is impossible to see until you see it in your mirror and the policeman stood next to it.

Fortunately I've always been passing the other direction to begin with and either seen him setting it up, or with it already set up.

There was no police man stood next to this one

There was a tripod about 1M high with 2 boxes on top.

Which way do they fire? Will they catch you from the front or back?
