Yep..they flash..

I've been flashed many times in a 'job' car enroute to emergencies...(always a nice feeling knowing no NIP is coming my way..)

I thought it was only gatso's, and not truvelo's that flashed.

Gatsos quite obviously double flash. I've seen Truvelos flash many times (thankfully was not me that set them off). However, I believe they can be fitted with Infra-Red filters, so you won't see the flash (I don't know how common these are).

Fingers crossed for you.

Not everyone is able to see the infra red flash of a truvelo they operate at the near infra red/visible range. Some poeple will be able to see it others not.

The ones that have flashed me in the police car are just like a gatso flash, but once and to the front..(obviously)

Truvelo's are the only cameras that flash when recording a genuine speeding offence. Gatso's are supposed to be able to flash oncoming vehicles when they are not operational, but I haven't heard any firm evidence of this.

Truvelo's have a magenta coloured flash, not infra-red. This is the least sensitive colour to the eye.

phew thanks. Crept above the speed limit whilst overtaking a lorry and kinda realised a little too late, then again - not too sure how fast I was going, broke pretty hard...

there is a single point, just before the camera where you are measured. If you are over then a purple flash will catch you. Guess you have to wait 2 weeks

Surely there is a real safety issue on cameras that flash directly at you at night - 'upstanding citizen crashes due to being temporarily blinded by speed camera - sues safety camera partnership - cameras outside well-lit urban areas now being withdrawn...'

GATSOs do indeed flash to the front, suspect this is when they have radar and flash but no film, previously they flashed once in this mode but I've seen double flashes more recently. This has happened several times when I've been overtaken approaching a GATSO on the opposite side of the road. The overtaking car goes blatting past me and the GATSO, which duly flashes with me more in view than the other car. When this happened at night and I had to brake hard and stop due to being temporarily blinded, I phoned the local camera unit (this was in the days before SCAMPs). The sergeant I spoke to said that being temporarily blinded was less of a safety risk then speeding. I resisted the temptation to reply.

I have it on 'good authority' that front facing truvelos do flash but it is a red/pink flash which is not as bright as a Gatso, however if you are fortunate enough to be wearing a Dark (safety) Visor (on your Motorbike helmet) this prevents dazzle.

This old chestnut

As streetsays

People get all confused because they are infra-red so you can't see the flash. The use near infra red the spectrum produced by the flash falls into the visable spectrum and can be seen.

Same as any one with a sony camcorder - switch on the nightshot function and look at the front of the camera - two green dots

Lucky escape. Was blinded myself last year at midnight No alert from R.Angel so figured it was supposed to be trained only on opposite carriageway BUT definitely no other vehicles about!

Bluepolarbear; was definitely a flash not little dots!

? obviously

The comparison was demostrate you can see so called "infra red" because the lights used to make IR also make visable light.
