None under the legistlation concerning mobile phone use...

The 'not being in proper control of vehicle' offence could still be applied...

I believe the above to be accurate...(I'm sure any member with the relevant books in front of them might confirm or otherwise)

I think this is why most of the police forces i heard interviewed on the telly at the time thought a "specific" law on mobile phones was a daft idea - beacuse there are still other thiings with which one could in improper control of ones vehicle...!

On a recent run down to cornwall and back, we used PMR's (little portable two ways)...

Single finger click to talk affair...

Does that fall under any ruling?

I didn't actually have to hold onto mine as it was clipped onto my three pointers!

The law was brought in dut to the the amount of incidents, whether they be fatal RTCs, minor RTCs or near misses where the blameworthy driver was using his mobile phone at the time.

CB radios are very 1970s...very Burt Reynolds..they're use is nowadays in the hands of HGV drivers and inbred hippies driving Chevettes

With a CB or other radio, one person talks, the other listens. With a mobile phone, a conversation ensues which is far more distracting.

Had a CB in the car from 1981 to 1991; unfortunately what had seemed a good idea was eventually ruined by kids and idiots playing music.

Still, before RDS radio I once received an accident warning from a trucker coming the other way on the M40. Turned off onto another road, avoided it and got to the airport on time!

And that's a big 10-4!

No the legisation is specifically limited to the devices operating in the mobile phone frequency allocations (including new 3G services).

All over devices are exempt.

As Streetcop says plenty of other laws can cover misuse.

Err... CB Radio, a medium where anyone with the equipment was free to join in a conversation - Ring any bells anyone! (Off to grow a droopy mustache and put me flares on!)

I believe they are loads safer.

For a start they have a loud speaker so you dont have to hold it to your ear.
The way that conversation is made is also very differnt.
IE its not really flowing conversation. You expect gaps. You press the button and dont talk for more than a few seconds.

Anyway, what do the police use?

Exactly!!! If a mobile phone is dangerous so is a CB or any two radio device held in the hand!
