A while back now driving along on my own late at night minding my own and within all limits. Quite quickly another car comes and draws up to follow, then he starts flashing his headlights furiously. Eh, what the, my car was new at the time and I knew it had no faults, so I ignored lightsman and carried on.

More lights flashing and it got silly, I could see in my mirror that two blokes were in the other car, I did'nt fancy stopping really. Then I thought better stop after more headlights flashing. Stopped stayed in my car windows up, (I'm not a coward but why walk into hell). Fella comes up and shouts towards me, 'I'm an off duty copper and so is my mate so dont worry' just to let you know your rear fog lights are on! Turned out to be the brake light switch had jammed on.

Two sides to this, I was filling my nappy thinking are these fellas doing a car jacking or is something wrong and they are doing me a favour trying to warn me.

What is the best course of action in these circumstances do you think in your opinions.

Don't stop...not for that...headlight flashing alone...

I think it's a bit over the top of them to stop you off duty for fog lights. Christ, I'd never get anywhere if I did that...I just sit and fume silently in my car..

Bit sad that they couldn't recognise the difference between fog lights and brake lights...especially after you had obviously braked to come to a stop.

If that had happened to me late at night I'd have lost them for dust. With the various car jacking scum out on the streets there is no way I'd pull over for any unmarked car.

Don't stop.
Drive to your destination/safe place in public as normally as you can.
If they get out, ask to see ID at the window.
Ring Police to confirm they are who they are.
If they are genuine they will wait!

By the way, this applies to everyone who is unsure/scared/alone/single female etc.

As for stopping off-duty with fog lights...they need to get a life!

I think I would have just driven away from them, probably using the narrower lanes where I feel most at home going very quickly. I don't want to seem immodest, but I doubt they would have kept up on the narrow twisty stuff at night. If in town I would have gone straight to the police station or called 999 on my mobile for assistance (wonder if I would have got any).

It sounds more likely to me that they weren't plod at all, but just a pair of chaps who get as irritated as the rest of us about numpties with fog-lights.
