If you get flashed by a truvelo camera, does this mean you were speeding??

I realise the above sounds strange, but this morning I was driving towards a Truvelo on the A21 dual carriageway, just before the Tonbridge turn off.

I knew the camera was there and was in the inside lane with a Micra and a small Fiat travelling at a speedometer indication of 56mph in a 60mph limit
200 yards between the Micra and myself, when I am next in line the Truvelo facing me flashed once with both lenses.

This just struck me as Bizarre as I was not pressing on at all and didn't slow down for the camera from a higher speed.
The car is an old Morgan, I was driving into the sun and wondered if the suns reflection on the chrome bumper, grill etc had played havoc with the camera.

If anyone with better understanding could enlighten me as to what the single flas means I would be grateful.

It's just a reflection off the camera lens.

Only one of the glass apetures is actually a flash - the other is simply a glass cover to protect the film. If they both get lit up at the same time it's almost 100% certain to be a reflection off something.

Drive past one at night and you'll see them both flash as your headlights go past.

No need to worry.

Didn't think forward facing cameras were allowed to flash on safety grounds.

Hi Daz..
We had this loads on here recently. They do flash and only flash once...I've been flashed dozens of times in the job car en-route to emergencies. The camera flashes just as you are passing it..it's more peripheral vision than anything else that picks it up..

Truvelo's flash in the infra red spectrum so they don't dazzle you You may see a pinkish flash, not sure.

Truvelos flash in the IR spectrum, so you cannot see it.

The Truvelos in Portsmouth visibly flash (no magenta filter) AND are forward facing. I've seen many drivers brake hard after they have been snapped.

Thanks Kevin..

BBQ time in a couple of hours..I've been chopping wood for the Chiminea (in case it turns cold later)..

Beer and food in the fridge ready...firestarters in the BBQ with charcoal placed carefully on etc..

Guests arriving about 3.30pm...

Weather looking good too..

I've seen them flash pink twice, albeit from the safety of the car behind the one being flashed.

Are you sure about that Street?

Could it be that when it's you being flashed you only see the first one?

Has to be said - the magenta filtered flashes I saw were all several years ago now, maybe they changed it?

Uh? What's one of them? when I first read it I thought you meant you owned a wood-powered Chimera!

I'm sure it's only one flash...it's not like the gatso, so two aren't required.

Wow, you are quick today! I'll take your word for it, I've been known to count my hands twice and get two different answers...

Any explanation of the wood powered Chim?

Explanation?

Put wood in the round bit at the bottom...set it on fire...guests huddle round and drink John Smiths...

Agreed!

AI, maybe it was a big truck/lorry which was speeding. Distance to rear wheels from front could be interpreted by scamera to be another speeding car, hence rear wheels were probably snapped as well.

I remember it well, it was the first camera flash I ever saw and I did something nasty to my underwear as I was bang on the limit (indicated) and he wasn't moving much faster.

It was a white 3-door peugot 309.

Can't explain why I saw two flashes, maybe just me, maybe a glitch in the camera or something, these things happen.

This is what I'm talking about...

They have been superceded nowadays by gas patio heaters..but IMO they take the fun away from it all..

A good chiminea burning nicely on the patio with some good friends sat around drinking and enjoying themselves is a perfect evening. Of course with my ex police dog lied several feet away on the lawn should any unwelcome gatecrashers arrive..
