Dunno if this is the right place to post this, but I guess it's to do with being so down with Speed, Plod, and the Law (not this forum I have to say) that I think I need a new hobby that doesn't involve breaking the law for thrills (speeding) & maybe not risking life & limb with other stupid road users.. (driving standards seem to be falling by the day) but what is a good hobby/pastime that is exciting, fun, legal, challenging? I realise Deltaf posted something similar a while back, but this feels different. So many new laws, so many camerasm and so many Stasi out there (not nice friendly PH cops!).

Or am I giving in too easy? dunno. The stress seems to be too high for the thrills gained, and I am worried that someone is gonna mash me up big time, like the plum who pulle dout on me when I was 20 yards away on a roundabout.

Don't let the ba$t@rds get you down!

But if you must consider other avenues in order to get your kicks, I can highly recommend flying Not cheap, but a whole heap of fun.

Or to keep it motoring related, how about some form of budget motorsport? Trackdays perhaps?

I have been thinking along the same lines Carl. I reckon rocket science is a nice hobby. Taking on board what Streetcop said also perhaps a bit of extra study in say ballistics might be fun.

I'd like to start doing track days myself, Going to upgrade to a suitable car and looking for an old mr2 turbo if i can find one that hasnt been ragged. What do people here suggest as a good track day car for a budget?

I have been having similar thoughts, but from the other angle. I reckon I actually drive more slowly these days, now I have a Caterham. Out right speed is much more noticeable as i am less cocooned by the car and so I don't go so fast (At least not on the straights)

I went out on a mates bike (A Duke 748 ) the other day and it was so fantastically competent I was unaware of the speeds I was doing until I made an effort to remove my eyes from the swiftly approaching horizon...Like I said, very competent

On the bike front I've been contemplating a supermotard (KTM Duke specifically) as a great hooning machine with less license losing potential.

nonegreen does it in a slightly grander fashion, but this is my latest (barmiest?) project on the way to it's new home.

That's a Shogun looking like a toy at the front!

Very little regulation at sea, with ample opportunity to scare yourself silly.

I sold my 'Blade and Lotus because of the license fears and now do;

Supermoto
Skiing
Karting
Motocross
Track days

And am about to start kite surfing and buggying out on Blackheath.

Most of these don't cost too much. The bike for supermoto and motocross was £2,700 (so a lot less than tha 'blade), the kite is £250, and karting is about £50 a time, which doesn't add up to as much as depreciation on a car.

They also have the advantage of getting me fitter and stronger than driving on the roads does.
