I have the following dilemma in taxing my car next week.

The thing is that the car I have has been leased for the last 3 years and I've just agreed to make the balloon payment and buy it outright. The lease company have said that they will issue me with an invoice for me to pay by cheque then they will send me the registration document & MOT certificate (I MOT’ed the car a couple of weeks ago and sent them the original).

The thing is the car tax expires on August 31st and I wont have the registration document or MOT certificate until they receive/cash my cheque and send me the documents, which I don’t believe will happen within the next week.

Does anyone know a way that I can tax my car?
(Bearing in mind that I have already asked the lease company to tax it and add it to the invoice for me and they have been less than helpful)

Also what is the situation if I drive it with no tax?
(Am I right in thinking that the registered keeper of the car is liable for the road tax, therefore until I get the registration document (When I will tax the car straight away) is the lease company liable for any fines incurred?

Nothing catered for at law for this problem so use without could attract unwelcomed attention.

Suggest you talk over your problem with your local Vehicle Licensing Office. If you are prepared to get a MOT yourself and they are prepared to issue you with Form V5C, then you may be able to obtain an Excise Licence.

It's come to something when a piece of paper 75mm round can prevent you using a motor vehicle
In a common sense world there would be some way of paying the fee, pending the arrival of the V5. Unfortunately the DVLA doesn't seem to use common sense.

I reckon that in connection with a filled out V62 then application at DVLA office (NOT Post Office) will probably sort it in practice? What about getting a copy of the MOT from where you got it tested??

www.dvla.gov.uk/forms/pdf/V62online.pdf

Agreed?

Usual disclaimers apply, no accounting for a jobsworth suddenly popping out of the wood work.

Sorry! Pls ignore all the above, just realised that the V62 HAS to be processed by Swansea. As you were, DOH! Smacked wrist!

I'd 2nd the idea of sourcing a duplicate MOT if poss. I'm guessing you have the V11 as the registered keeper.

Not sure why you'd send the MOT to the leasing company in the first place, though, as its you who'd have to produce it on request by the BiB...

That is something normal, they (leasing co) should tell you which station you have to nominate for a producer. Usually one local to their offices obviously.

Thanks for the advise guys,

Seeing no other way around it I thought I would give the lease company another call, This time I spoke to a much more helpful woman who advised me that the car had ALREADY beed taxed and the disc was being posted out about now.

So the panic is over and from what she said the cost of the RFL is incurred by the lease company and won’t be added to my invoice.

So that is a big weight of my shoulders and a extra few quid to spend on at the LMES race at Spa in a couple of weeks!

Thanks,

Al.
