German speeding ticket - will they remember
Discussion
Hi,
A couple of years ago I got flashed by a camera on the Autobahn doing 130kmh in a 90. Didn't realise until I got home when a summons appeared through my door at home in England - it was a hire car so had my personal details.
I phoned the court and they said I didn't need to attend as they would be happy to sentence in my absence. Some weeks later I received a fine for € 450 which I accepted as it serves me right for not watching the speed limit. Called the court to make payment and they informed me that they couldn't take card payments and I would have to sort out a bank transfer.
Being a typical man I kept meaning to go to bank to sort it but days turned into weeks into months and here I am a couple of years later. I've not heard a thing from them and I've long since lost the paperwork with their payment details.
My question is this. I'm planning on driving through Germany in a couple of months, do you think there will be any sort of warrant for me and what will happen if I get pulled?

Impossible to get a speeding ticket in Germany. Everbody on here references that there are no speed limits in Germany at all, whenever anyone gets a UK speeding ticket.
Very possible to get tickets - I have proof X 2, once for exceeding the "speed limit whilst raining".

I would guess in this case that actually getting stopped in Germany may be a problem, that is if a complete check is made of a foreign licence.
I would think that must be right - if they check the name he'd be stuffed.I'm surprised they haven't chased up the payment through debt collectors though.

I know you can get a speeding ticket, but every single thread around speeding in the UK will have at least one poster referencing that a speed of x+mph im an xmph limit is perfectly OK & safe because in Germany you can do a million mph everywhere.

Hmmm...you almost deserve a whoosh parrott - we were both reinforcing your sarcastic point.
Sorry but the two posts below read much more like correction of my comment, rather than an equally sarcastic comment::LoonR1 said:

My colleague just got banned for a month. He was caught by a cop using laser in the dark. I forget the exact details and it was in KM so I didn't really take it it, but it was like 52 in a 40 type of thing. He got the short ban as it was the second time he'd been caught in a fairly short space of time.

It's just the Internet, don't worry about it.I could have picked you up on your comment that every single thread about speeding mentions Germany, which isn't true.

Different country. UK debt collectors would have the power to do absolutely f**k all. Same for German debt collectors. I'm surprised they haven't chased up the payment through debt collectors though.

Banned in Germany perhaps, but it is not possible to enforce a German ban on a non-German licence outside Germany. creampuff said:

I don't know - is that true? Apparently they (the Germans's) do normally pursue these things, and the UK does too. I don't see why they couldn't go through the civil court to enforce. What I am surprised about, bearing in mind it was a hire car, is that the German's didn't bill the rental company, and then they would re-charge the OP.

Civil, criminal, it does not matter: UK courts have no jurisdiction over events which have taken place outside the UK. German courts can't enforce anything outside Germany.
