My son (15) came and spent the day with me today... he told me this:
A guy is stopped for speeding, the subsequent conversation goes:
Cop: "Why were you going so fast?"
Motorist: "I'm late for work!"
Cop: "Where do you work?"
Motorist: "A bit further down this road"
Cop: "What do you do?"
Motorist: "I'm a rectum stretcher!"
Cop: "A what???"
Motorist: "Rectum stretcher!"
Cop: "How do you do that?"
Motorist: "First you put your fingers in and pull them apart a bit, then get your hands in and stretch them a bit more to get your feet in then stretch them as far as you can; we can get them 2 yards wide!"
Cop: "What the hell would anyone do with a six foot arse hole??"
Motorist: "Stand him behind a bush with a radar gun!"
LOL
No offence meant to my mate Street! It's a joke!

Nobody should exceed the speed limit on that road due to the amount of private driveways and the narrowness of the road.

Whats that got to do with safe driving street?
I was thinking that if one travels too fast on that particular road, residents from the houses might emerge from their driveways into ones path. The point is that there are roads where a 30mph zone isn't really necessary and some which are. I think that road is one. IMHO

Not even police officers? To suggest that a road - any road - cannot ever be travelled along in excess of a speed limit is silly. As long as you can stop in the distance you can see to be clear and make allowance for hazards you can travel at any speed. The safe speed might be 5, 30 or 50. It will probably have no relevance to the posted limit.

Quite right. But due to the sheer wisdom and common sense of the SCAMPs, such cameras will after all be fitted with a time switch so that at 3 am the catch speed is higher than at 3pm. As a result, under the right conditions and with appropriate observation and hazard anticipation whilst motoring at a speed such that you can stop in the distance you can see will remain clear, driving above 30 mph at 3am will be both safe and legal and not result in the removal of sixty notes and the gift of three points conditions apply, description only valid when Brunstrom buys Paul Smith out of SafeSpeed, replaces Ted at PH Hq, and runs the ABD
Dons flak jacket. I know this speed camera and I don't have a problem with it. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it is in exactly the sort of place where it is likely to have a positive effect. As has been pointed out, it is a relatively narrow street, in urban location with lots of driveways, pedestrians and bus stops. If you exceed the limit down a road like this you are not fit to be behind the wheel.
If all speed cameras were only to be found in similar places there would be a far greater acceptance of them as a legitimate safety measure.

Interesting point.... Littledown Ave in Bournemouth is a wide residential road with a 30mph limit. The crafty scammera w******ers hide there nasty little van off down a sideroad and have a little black box camera on a tripod cleverly hidden by the bushes to catch speeding motorists there - no chance of spotting them!
Now from what I understand they are supposed to be enforcing 'safety' in accident blackspots but the only accident I know of there is when a friend found an upsidedown panda car in his front garden....
