First question .......... (I'll expand after some answers).

What can I expect having just returned my NIP for doing 46 mph in a 30 mph? Fixed penalty offer of £60 + 3 points or taken to court for a higher penalty? Or does it depend on the local policy?

Thanks

Might need more info.

If you've received a FP notice then you send your licence off with payment and get it back with points on.

If it's an NIP....you'll more than likely get a summons for a court date. This could take anything up to 6 months to come through.

If the authority is working to the guide lines of ACPO on Speed Proescution then you should be in line for a Conditional Offer.i.e. pay 60 notes and collect 3 points and the matter is over and done with.

At 50 mph plus in a 30 is when they would want you to appear in the Dock.

Aha! Thanks guys.

Dwight - that was the answer I was looking for. My reason for asking is a bit complicated to explain but I had written asking for further copies of photos which I was hoping would show an incident of 'road rage' just prior to being 'nicked' (the reason for accelerating away - and hitting 46). I also made some other comments in my letter.

The Police kindly sent a further 4 photos together with a letter answering my comments ......... and added at the end "consequently a conditional offer is enclosed", etc etc (£60 +3 points).

I had wondered if the word 'consequently' was construed to mean that they understood my comments and were therefore being nice and offering me the soft option rather than taking me to court - but I guess not from your info about guidelines.

Many thanks.
