So. 2am and I'm heading home, I get close to my house and there's a long straight. I was pressing on and I come across this 06 Astra (proper mucky neglected thing, people inside werent officers......surely) doing 40ish in the 60 straight, no one else about so overtook and pelted it up the road. Anyways this Astra decides to keep up - tries to anyway - and catches me up when I get into the built up area where I turn off for my house at the next roundabout (as Im no longer pressing on). We get to another straight bit of country road and I pelt it again to try get him off my arse where hed been sat through the village, I turn into my drive and he finally catches up and follows me up (this is a pitch black, windy gravel track next to a field with hedges either side). I stop and get out, and Im ready for some really pissed off person to start hurling abuse at me or soemthing, these guys get out dressed like proper chavs (Im thinking....oh st Im going to get stabbed here)and he pulls out a badge, undoes his Adidas tracksuit top and there's the old Police officer vest and radio. They were out for burglars apparently. Anyway called a traffic car down to deal with me as they had no evidence, just a statement of my driving. Got to go to the local station to give a statement today. Decent bunch of lads really, think Ill end up with driving without due care and attention for this one, or I hope I will. Better than 6 points and a bigger fine for Dangerous driving.

What part of your driving constituted DWDCA or dangerous driving?

Meanwhile Burglaries all over the place go undetected.

Excess speed in itself does not constitute DWDCA or dangerous driving does it?

Bet you get a Section 59.

This stinks.

A undercover car doing 40 in a 60 enticing you to overtake, when you do they then try to "keep up" which they can only do whilst in the built up areas where you are obeying the speed limit. Once out of built up area presumably into a NSL area you accelerate to create some space which constitutes dangerous driving?

Cross hatches in the middle of the road mate. Totally pointless them being there. It was 2am and there was no one about Im sure anyone would have done the same. Its not like I stopped when I reached 60 mph either.

Anyways, Im not complaining - I was driving like a bellend and fair is fair. Just thought it was a strange experience.

I know how traffic violations work, Ive been pulled over a lot of times and I know the old dangerous driving trick.

Shouldn't be any issue with crossing cross hatchings.

Even if they have solid white lines bordering them I don't think they class as solid whites that get you 3 points although I'm sure someone will confirm.

If it was me I would use the defence that after you overtook them they chased you in a unmarked which you found threatening so tried to gain some distance on the unknown car. And tried to make it home as soon as possible.
You are allowed do brake the driving laws if you have a genuine reason to do. I would think a personal threat to you safety being followed by a unknown car would be a reason.
This, I think most people would behave similarly if being followed by a suspect car at 2am

Thats what I plan on saying but Ill be taking this one on the chin, Im not going in there all combative as I did drive like a bellend at points. Technically I had no real reason to overtake the car down the NSL straight in the first place. Double whites with cross hatches in the middle. I just wanted to open the old girl up and this guy was taking his time and I simply overtook (as I said, who wouldn't?). He followed me though, from accelerating normally and taking his time, to proper belting it. Ive only got a 1600cc Clio so its not fast but that Astra definitely changed his pace once Id overtaken. I was driving normally with when I got in the built up area but the Astra turned down the road I went down and caught up with me and just sat on my back side. Id cleared some good space between me and the Astra by the time Id got to the built up area so you can imagine how I felt after Id just overtaken him, only to sit on the speed limit 2 minutes down the road.

Anyway. This isnt about me asking for advice, Im in the wrong at the end of the day. Just a very strange experience which worried me a bit up until he took out his badge. Literally thought I was going to get my head kicked in.

I did. A few years back I got followed by an unmarked 02 plate Fiat Stilo with one officer in it. He gave no indication he was the long arm of the law, and tailed me (with a mate riding shotgun) for about 20 minutes, even after I did three full circuits of a roundabout. I actually thought I was about to get carjacked, so without going into a huge amount of detail, we pulled up, and a hell of a lot of shouting ensued. It didn't go any further for either me or for the BiB.

Id be interested to know if what they did was legal. Ive got to go on a considerate drivers course. Costing me close to £100.

The two officers in the Astra might have been PCSO's and didn't arrest me on scene neither did the traffic officer.

I was tempted to tell them to shove the course up their arse, but Im pretty sure they could take me to court and do me for dangerous driving and that way Id be landed with court costs and more points and a big fine.

Just dont see what right the unmarked vehicle had to chase me in the first place, or when all is said and done what evidence they actually have against me as its just the word of two police officers rather than actual evidence.
