Hi all,
First post here to hello to you all and go easy!
Was driving along on a certain motorway pushing a certain speed that may have been over the limit. I saw a traffic car parked in on the grassy verge (beyond the hard shoulder) reversed in behind a bridge pillar(cheeky hiding place).As soon as I saw him i thought i'd be done so prepared myself for the worst. He flashed on his lights on top but then switched then off. This confused me so i slowed dpwn intending to stop if he followed. He didn't. Am i OK or can i expect the envelope?
Secondly, I was wondering if there are any rules regarding where traffic cars can clock people from on motorways. For example do they have to be in the bays with the reflective strips and suchlike? Or is anywhere game?

From what you say its sounds like you had a 'shot accross the bows' type warning. They just wanted to let you know they had seen you...and to make sure you had seen them! If they were zapping you they wouldn't have bothered putting the blues on, and if they wanted you to stop they would have come after you properly.
No, there are not any specific rules about positioning Police cars. Some are sneeky and will hide and some make sure they can be seen by everyone as a deterrent!

Mate, exactly the same thing happened to me driving up the M6 at night to Scotland recently. Doing about 85mph when i was 'lit up' from behind (ohh err missus). I pulled over to lane 1 expecting a bollocking and/or ticket, and they just carried on! Good on them, common sense Policing, slowed me down, no problems with it at all. My heart returned to it's normal beat about 10 miles on......
