Speed camera vandals plead guilty
Two men who vandalised more than 20 speed cameras after one of them was fined for speeding, have been given 200 hours community service each.
Roy Robotham, 19, and Benjamin Taylor, 20, daubed black and white paint on 22 camera lenses along a stretch of the A51 in Staffordshire earlier this year.
Taylor told police he did it "out of frustration, propaganda and stupidity".
Magistrates in Cannock also ordered the pair to each pay more than £1,000 in compensation and £30 costs.
False claim
Sara Beddow, prosecuting, told the court that Taylor, a clerical worker, had been disgruntled about receiving a speeding fine.
They were each charged with causing £2,283 worth of damage to cameras on two occasions between March 10 and April 29.
The pair, who were living together in a flat in Horsefair, Rugeley, were arrested in May after telling a neighbour what they had done.
The men each pleaded guilty to six counts of criminal damage on the road between Rugeley and Sandon and asked for 16 other offences to be taken into consideration.
Robotham, who is currently unemployed, also admitted one separate count of dangerous driving and was disqualified for 12 months.
In an unconnected incident, Taylor also pleaded guilty to failing to report an accident and making a false insurance claim.
For that incident he was disqualified from driving for six months and ordered to pay an additional £4,196 in compensation.

I don't really understand why they were disqualified from driving for vandalism. Yes, their target was 'driving related' but they weren't doing any dangerous driving. It's similar to that guy being banned for 12months for standing at the side of the road and warning motorists of a speed trap ahead.

Assuming that the neighbour shopped them for vandalising the speeding cameras and not the other offences, he's a right c**t! Wonder if he got some sort of reward for such petty stoolie behaviour...other than the repeated kicks to the 'nads that he deserves!
They are probably also guilty of disturbing the peace, littering the neighbourhood, playing loud music, fly tipping in neighours gardens, fighting in the street, and being Chavs. The neighbour probably just saw this as a way for getting thier own back.
Would you say that about me? I would happily vandalise a scamera and I'm an otherwise respectable professional father of two. Scameras are an act of vandalism on the countryside in their own right and should be culled by whatever means possible.
We certainly don't have enough info to condemn this pair based on that article and I wholeheartedly support anyone who disables a scamera by whatever means.

it helps them prop up their POV.BliarOut said:

which tends to make one think Chav.
As to the 200 hours of community service - surely they were doing the community enough of a service by disabling the license-muggers in the first place
