Cameras-cover lanes in both directions?
Discussion
Stupid question, I expect, but we all get paranoid about cameras.
Road - one lane North, one lane South, separated by road markings - travelling North, yellow camera facing North - in front of it, two sets of diamond shaped road markings either side of the North lane - no such markings on the South lane - does this mean that the camera only operates to catch traffic travelling North - or might it also catch traffic travelling South? - put this another way, are the two sets of markings required for the camera to be able to do its job, in which case only Northbound will be affected, or, would only the one that is in the North lane and is nearest to the South lane, even though it is not in that South lane, be sufficient for the camera to catch traffic in that lane?

If it's a Truvelo, it will work in the direction it's facing..(towards the traffic)
If it's a Gatso, it will work in the direction where it's behind you...
The 'diamond' shapes..i'm not sure of.. They could be vascar marks. As seen in this still from a police videocar.
My advice..don't gamble around cameras. Stick to the speed limit and under.

Petards? J'ai achete beaucoup de petards en France mais ils ne sont pas assez fort pour detruire les cameras a velocite.
The diamond markings seem to be used instead of the normal "ladder" markings for Gatsos in some areas. They are also used at the start of 30 limits entering villages, along with the "village gates"; and also at the "village gates" where there is no reduction in speed limit. I presume this is some kind of psy-op to make people think there's a Gatso at the gates.
AIUI a Gatso needs to take two photos showing the progress of the car along the markings, whether ladder or diamond, in order for its records to be admissible as evidence, so if it is triggered by a car coming the other way and therefore not going over the markings that car can't be done.

Both types of camera are able to record vehicles speed in both directions however both are restricted by UK legislation.
Holland has recently re-legislated against this and now use both cameras in both directions.
Soon to follow here no doubt.
NB : The will road markings will have to be altered to allow both flows of traffic and in some cases this has already been done in preparation.
Thanks, guys.
This gets complicated
Does a camera take a photograph (in my example) of only the North lane, or of both lanes, North and South?
If the latter, is it the case that a vehicle in the South lane doing over the limit will trigger the camera?
I have read that a line or lines can be drawn from the set of markings nearest to the South lane and across it, so for that reason a car be done. This would require a photograph of the two lanes.
I have also read that a single photograph of a car approaching a camera (in the South lane in my example) is insufficient .
I have also read that the markings, i.e the two sets in front of the camera, are the necessary corroboration for the offence to be proved, so for that reason a car in the South lane can't be done.

Hi Pigeon, Sounds like all those low migration flights over France paid off then? Watch out for those French guns though! They're famous for shooting each other, never mind low flying Pigeons!!!

StreetCop,
Are the white ladder markings necessary to coroborate the speed calculated by the Gatso.
If on the second frame the vehicle is outside of the ladder markings (due to the markings being to short for the site) would this be enough to have the NIP cancelled.
Difficult to say, without seeing the picture. The marks can be extended, for court purposes on a computer, for example in cases were vehicle are travelling really quick and have passed by the marks by the second photo..
