Fot those who are interested, these are the comments from a recent standards committee meeting into police pursuits:

· Operators and supervisors from the Force Operations room and other Area Control rooms
are invited to attend pursuit training.

· All the traffic cars are fitted with a hands-free capability for radio transmissions, as are the
response cars and the majority of panda cars.

· All the drivers attending advanced driving courses are trained in commentary techniques
which are required when undertaking a pursuit.

· Codes of Practice for police drivers and controllers of pursuits have been revised and
issued to all officers attending driving courses and supervisory members of support staff
working in control rooms.

· The distinction between the terms “pursuits” and “follows” have been acknowledged as not
being helpful and these terms are being reviewed nationally.

· All traffic officers have been trained in tactical pursuit and containment procedures and
stinger deployment to enable a pursuit to be brought to a safe and timely conclusion.

· All traffic cars are fitted with video equipment that records both sound and pictures.

· All response cars and a number of panda cars have been fitted with incident data
recorders as a trial; consideration is now being given to fitting these to all panda cars.
