How, exactly, would a speed camera have helped here?

Maybe I missed it, but where was a speed camera suggested? It even says he was driving below the speed limit. At least he's put his hazards on

article said:

Fortunately for other motorists he was not driving above the speed limit so they had time to move out of his way

That's exactly the kind of wording that I hate, they should have written it as

Fortunately for other motorists he was not driving at an inappropriate speed so they had time to move out of his way

The speed limit is not a magic number that stops all accidents.

vehementely agree with the above - wtf has "speeding" got to do with that?

anyways - on a different tack - where do people get off on publishing that kind of thing? is it a slow day for news or something...

it's like nebby-neighbouring on a grandiose scale... ok so the bloke was confused (it says he was on medication) and shouldn't have been driving but to publicise it as such on the internet imo is a bit off...

The points I was trying to make were, a) as mentioned - why the reference to speed in the article? To suggest driving on the wrong side of the road is in any way more acceptable or even safer if it is at less than the arbitrary speed limit is plain daft. And b) This chap could have continued driving in this manner all day long and not had a nice envelope through the door from a 'safety' partnership. So much for 'safety' then.

PS - Agree with the comments re: site content. The chap seems to spend an inordinate amount of time taking pictures of car crashes... But they do have good write ups for the local cricket!

(goes back and checks) AAARGH! So they are! They looked so yellowy-orange in the photo that I didn't register which lens was lit up!
