New BiB in Kings Somborne / Stockbridge
Discussion
I'm on my usual commute this morning through the lovely Hampshire countryside when I realise there are 4 white shirted gentleman in a very fat lookin volvo saloon (with a few too many aerials) sat on my bumper.
After pulling onto the final dap of nice twisty tarmac (usually a nice sedate 60mph amble) before hitting the stockbridge road from winchester I spy in my rear view mirror that the bibmobile has pulled out into the middle of the road (presumably for better visibility) and is obviously looking to bollock past me at the first oportunity.
Which he did, without fooking about!
All this is very well and good but we were coming up on quite a nasty left hander, and even in his nice lane splicing position I can honestly say that there no chance in hell that he could have seen around the corner.
I'm presuming that it was probably a new driver on training (being as he also creamed past the 3 cars in front of me on the next straight).
Any PH'ers know how these chaps are trained, what they are asked to do to prove they are mad, sorry skilled enough to scare the hell out of the local bovine population, as well as give us sensible commuters heart attacks?
Are they issued with corner defying X-ray specs?
ps. was a nice motor anyway!

When overtaking prior to a corner there is always some danger, however the limit point - the point at which they can see no further round the bend - will have been increased due to the vehicle moving out to the right.
The line of sight will have been clear, and the time allowed for overtake would have meant there was little danger.
What you see as they come past might be a different picture from the BiB driving seat.
Hope that helps.

MooSchmoo - I'm curious.
If the BiB had spotted YOU making the quadruple overtake approaching the bend, would it have suprised you to have been pulled over and given a talking to ??
Not in the slightest mate.. but then I'm not a BiB trained volvo chuffer!
Don't do as I do, do as I say, eh ??
Nuff said - no releasing of worms from their container by me.

Overtaking is not an offence... if the visibility was clear and it was a good safe overtake I'm sure you would not be pulled over
No one suggested it was an offence but you do not need to be a trained (BiB or otherwise) driver to know when an overtake is dangerous.
The fact that MooSchmoo acknowledged he would not have been surprised to get a tug makes the manoeuvre by the unmarked BiB questionable, that's all.

well i've had no advanced driver training, and as posted above he did have a better angle on the view through the bend (as he was in the middle of the road), but it still made my stomach lift a few inches in readiness for a possible head on wipeout.
balls... too right.. big shiny brass mofos!

Sounds like it's a Roadcraft lesson. 4 bib in white saloon = training car. You can spot them miles away
I like to see if they can keep up
Overtaking prior to seemingly blind left hand blends causes all sorts of panic by those being overtaken. If only they knew that by being on the apparently wrong side of the road its possible to see round the corner & waft past at leisure.

Well said - if you want to learn how to drive properly and improve your own progress through the twisties I recommend a ridedrive coarse - advertised on here. An absoulte bargin at £200(ish) not only will it improve your cornering/overtaking etc but it will teach you the benefits of better perception.
Sounds to me like the BiBs made a text book overtaking maneuvre
