Has anybody dealt with these aholes that dish out tickets like a loonatic? I was sat in the car, we had a valid ticket but it slipped down out of view. He wrote up and slapped the ticket on our car and when pointing out we had the ticket he said it was tough as he had already written it up.

Plan to complain both to the supermarket and the parking company (last time the ticket was wiped off and got a £50 credit for the supermarket), but I hate having to do it because of these guys being complete jobsworths.

Don't even bother replying to their demands for money, plenty of info on the web about how they've no legal jurisdiction. The "fine" you receive is an invoice, you don't need to pay it.
Torn up many, never got done for it once. wink

Just park in the parent and child bays next to you see him. That'll really piss him off.

I can see the point of your post but look at it from his point of view, he can't read your ticket if he can't see it. It will almost certainly be on the car parks T&C's.......

Display it more carefully in the future and you won't have a problem.

But yes, the "invoice" probably isn't legally enforceable, so either ignore all correspondence or write to the company explaining what happened and see what they say.....

You pay for parking at a supermarket???

As per first reply, its a parking charge that is unenforceable in law as they cannot prove you entered into a contract and have no legal rights for the registered keeper to divulge the drivers details like you would with a speeding ticket or a council parking FINE.

Ignore the first letter.
Ignore the second letter
Ignore the final demand.
Ignore the Solicitors letter.

The end.

I have a pile of the above four from various "parking charges", I've never paid for one and I point blank refuse to pay for ANY supermarket car park, if they want my business i'll park there, the end.

(unless its a council one or a clamping one!)

Although, £50 credit from the supermarket, hmm, worth fighting then!!

Aside from Waitrose (which is massively expensive anyway) the car parks for supermarkets charge for parking (you get that off your bill if you spend more than a fiver)

Which supermakets are these? There is a small pay and display area at the back of my local Asda, dont see the point though as there are masses of free spaces.

The foreign tts at sainsburys though who want to wash your car with a spray bottle of water and a dirty rag are a complete pain in the arse. They always seem to target me for some reason, even when I have just given my car a full on 8 hour detail!

The law changed on the 1 October so I think there's a lot of bad advice being given in this thread!

Check out the SP&L forum for more up-to-date info.

I'm from Bedforshire... never seen a supermarket asking for money to park there. Lemme know which one it was, so I can avoid it!

I never did economics at school, but I kind of assumed they all charged for parking.

complain to the super market rather than trying to deal with the parking company direct even if the supermarket claim to have no responsibility
don't ignore, as stated above the law has changed they can be enforced in the right circumstances

Not really, the carpark has suffered no loss, therefore they can't charge you a penalty - it's all covered by contract law.

The only supermarkets we use are Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, Morrisons and occasionally Waitrose. Both locally and anywhere we have gone on our holidays, I have never seen any charging systems at any of the above-mentioned shops. However, if we ever go to any of the above-named supermarkets anywhere to find a charge applying, we will not be giving them our custom, unless it is a shared parking operated by, say, a council, with large notices advising that the charge will be waived upon the purchase of produce there.

The supermarkets that charge tend to be the ones near town centres, as otherwise everyone would park in there and there would be no room for customers. Customers get the cost refunded. Even a sainsbury's local to me does this.
