Got NIP today from Norfolk scameras for alleged speeding on the A11.

My Road Angel detected nothing with the laser detector.

Is it still worth not signing ? I can't afford a lawyer.

I know it wont help but as a warning to others as well...

LASER DETECTORS DO NOTHING to help you. If you want real protection (and want to take the risk of being "done" for whatever...) get a jammer.

If this is your only 3 points, take it. Its not worth fighting as they will only screw you over for more unless you ahve some REALLY solid defense (remember speeding = worse than murder)

Thanks gh0st.

It will be my first 3 points on clean licence.

A jammer will be next on my shopping list after a new TV, as my expensive 10 year old widescreen set has blown up for the second time.

Driving is more enjoyable that watching TV, so why not get the jammer first and the TV later.
If you don't live anywhere near the area in which you gat caught, then you could try just throwing any and all NIP's away. It has been known to work. Then, if they do send Mr. Plod round to your house, just deny ever receiving anything unless it came recorded delivery. Of course, no policeman may ever visit you, in which case you're in the clear. It seems that county forces don't always work together on minor motoring offences.

Commiserations Ledfoot.

Might be worth asking for photo's, evidence etc. to help ascertain who was driving. Keep up a long correspondance with them, cos the more work they have to do, the less loot they can mug off you.

Also, the longer you spin it out, the more chance they have of losing it, not that there is much chance of that I suspect.

Make the scammers work for every penny!!!

HEY!!!!

Make sure it was sent 1st class or registered, or the NIP is worthless.

Don't tell them this of course until at least the 28 days are up!!

It was sent normal 1st class post, and not local to me at all.

I will make them wait I guess.

Seriously dude, just take it. If it was your second lot then fair enough but just think of it as a slap on the wrist for not paying attention and a fine for not having a jammer installed, you dangerous child killer road raging maniac you...

Not worth the hassle and if you equip yourself for next time, the s are not going to get you again

Most obvious question, was it within 14 days of the offence? If not, you are home free.

pepipoo comes well recommended...

Yes, it was well within 14 days (sadly), but I will still wait the 28 days before returning NIP.

Thanks for all replies

I will have a read on Pepipoo

I once was sent a NIP which I filled in and returned. A couple of weeks later I missed the postman who tried to deliver a recorded delivery letter, which I never went to collect. Never heard anothe thing!!!!

As some of you may know I have a bit of kit that gets used for testing countermeasures

The Road Angel add on laser detector is as useful as a fart in a wind tunnel. If if a laser gun is pointed right at it from a few meters away they still don't go off or detect the laser. Waste of time & money in my opinion. I have tested several of them as I thought it might be only one, it's not.

Plus they they wont be much use anyway as by the time you've detected it you have been clocked.

I happen to know someone (a member of my family) who was photographed in a county near Northamptonshire (!) at 49 in a 40. The car was registered to a company who provided the driver's name and address, but not his date of birth as they didn't know it.
The driver lived in London and he ignored two NIP's, then moved to work in France for 6 months, followed by a move to Bedfordshire and then to Warwickshire. There were several letters forwarded to him from his old London address, but as these were unanswered he heard no more. That was over 2 years ago. It seems the scammers may, just may, give up if they find it hard to trace you. it's worth a try by just never replying, as 1st class post is no guarantee of receipt nor confirmation even of a delivery.
Just go for it. After all, if they do find you and send a summons, you can always plead guilty after all, whilst still denying ever receiving any documents. If a policeman visits to question you say nothing until cautioned, then rely on PACE for protection. They may just not bother as the costs and time are high with no guarantee of success.

Assuming this was simply a matter of speeding, my sympathies are entirely with you ledfoot. Others can better advise you how to respond to the situation, but I wish you every success in avoiding having a penalty imposed. This business about being penalised for speeding is a damned stupid system in my view, and it contributes nothing useful in a genuine search for improved road safety. Good luck.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Are you sure it was you driving at the time?

If there are more than one normal drivers (got a wife?) of your car it could well be difficult for you to know which one was driving.......

I have been sent a 'Conditional Offer' which means for £60 they will put 3 points on my licence.

Paperwork says I was doing 95mph on a 70mph dual carriageway.

I thought I was doing less than 90mph, so is it worth requesting evidence, or should I just consider myself 'lucky' ?

Consider yourself lucky and pay up.

If you say "But I was only doing 89 mph", you would have admitted breaking the law. Someone might seize on that and it could make things worse for you.

So, I'd swallow your pride and pay up if I were you. Oh - and slow down a tadge, perhaps? Your choice.
