Is this only true for Scotland?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-ea...

It says its not a vehicle and there's no-one permanently living there, so not illegal

So would a skip be legal as well. Seems like BS to me but it's on the internet so it must be true :-)

Some cock smoker has one parked in one of the very few public bays in my estate, rather annoying.

a skip needs a permit to be on the road and needs a beacon.

Sounds plausible. Double yellow lines mean that it's illegal to stop a vehicle on them, not that it's illegal to leave anything on them, and caravans are vehicles. Daft loophole in the law if it is true, but then the law is full of daft loopholes.

Great idea - do the same with a car trailer & park your car inside - free parking anywhere!

don't blame me if this doesn't work.

I know a guy who was developing and renovating a big property in Kensington
You can get parking dispensation / suspension for all manner of works and skips etc.
But not to park his private car.
As he was here every day he hired a 20 yard covered RORO Bin
Opened the doors every morning and in went his car smile

Obstruction

103. No person in charge of a motor vehicle or TRAILER shall cause or permit the vehicle to stand on a road so as to cause any unnecessary obstruction of the road.

Has been held in the past that excessive length of time on a highway has been held to be obstruction. Yellow lines must surely mean that they want to keep the carrieway free???

A kind of classic - apocryphal - was of the rich man who went to Coutts Bank and asked to borrow £5000 for a week...

Got his money and left his Aston as security...

Week later, came back and paid his £5000 + £8-25 interest on the loan...

Bank Manager asked him, why, as a known millionaire, he had borrowed such a small amount for a week...

'Where else could I have got secure parking in Central London for a week for £8-25?"

Before de crim cam in ( and a few years ago) ,it was possible to get dispensation from head warden to park on yellows in most towns ,if you needed to get kit in as an installer/service engineer. I treid this one day in one town .All went well till I was asked VRN /make model of vehicle .Moment car was mentioned it was NO -vans only in this town .
Month or two later, I was working in Fenny Stratford .Parking outside the premises was two hour only, but accross a busy road it was all day . I parked outside the shop to unload .Along came one of the old Yellow perils .i put my case and out came her note pad & pen ."Stick that in you're windscreen and I;l tell the other one to leave you alone" .

Great anecdote, but a load of bks. If you leave something as securty then the title, or deeds are left, not the property itself. Coutts is a Private Bank for the very rich, not a pawnbrokers.

It's a backstreet. Council don't want the hassle.

Pretty sure the report is "inaccurate" when they say "it's not causing an obstruction."

One of the lovely articulate Scots says something along the lines of "I've got to mount the kerb to get round here now"...
